No more bats in garage
We had bats nesting in our garage for over a year. Finally thought of owl sounds. It worked ! The bats left.

Only makes sounds by day- quiet at night
This is the 2nd battery operated owl I have. First one was sold at Walmart last year- it's different than this one in that the hooting is louder. The owl featured here makes different type noises & a short hoot- but the sound is not very loud and neither of these owls hoot at night. Only by day. I assume it's a programming issue- I don't know. But not happy with this - wanted to put them outside for Halloween for the kids- but who pays attention to a quiet owl?

Don’t bother
This item looks ok, but that’s all it has going for it. The motion detection is very limited in distance and height. It makes noise if I wave my hand right in front of it, but not if I walk by. The battery compartment is on the bottom so the owl must be unscrewed if you need to change the batteries. The screws provided are very small and don’t have a hole guide to get them to whatever base you find to use. The screw to the battery compartment is extremely small, needing a magnifying glass and special small screwdriver. I would not buy again or recommend.

Good product
I purchased to scare away the birds defecating around my pool. It has helped some but took a few days to see improvement. I also had to figure out a way to secure it into place but once secured it is helping.

Very Effective! Looks like a Real Owl!
I was originally frustrated because I could not open the battery compartment. The culprit was a tiny screw in the lid of the compartment. Once opened, the owl took three double A batteries. Boy, this owl is loud! It's just what I needed to scare away the bandit squirrels who inhabit my backyard. (Each year, they eat the produce in my garden before I can retrieve it.) The owl's head rotates completely around and looks like the real thing. The only problem I may encounter if it keeps my neighbors up at night. If that happens, I can just turn the sound effects off with a flip of a switch on the bottom. Even silent the head movements are enough to make these squirrels think twice before descending into my garden!

Doesn't work at night
This is cute and it moves and makes noises in the daytime. But I need it to also work at night and it doesn't. I wanted it to scare off rats and raccoons raiding my mango tree. But I tested it out by walking by it several times in the dark and it did not 'see' me. I have a motion-detector sprinkler and it works at night so I thought this would, too.In the daytime, the squirrels took about a week to figure out that it was a fake. I came out to see a squirrel running along the fence right behind the owl.My battle to save my mangoes must continue. I go out during the day with the hose and chase the squirrels off, but can't really stay out there all night to spook the raccoons and rats.

Scare the Squirrels
I planted my pumpkins only to catch one of the local squirrels feasting on the seeds a few days later. Also, the local squirrels love to torture our dogs when they are outside in their kennel. So far, this has scared our poor little pocket beagle to death but apparently it freaks the squirrels out too :DI've only had it a week but I think it's been worth the money I spent. I am moving it every couple of days so the squirrels don't catch on.
