It works
We live in an old property with extensions built so that no one can get near to block up the entrances that rats use. Having rats in the attic, and in the walls, behind the plasterboard is not pleasant. One even eat its way through the plasterboard in the living room as we were watching TV! Traps caught only a few, I hate the thought of poison and the sonic devices are only any good for rats that are already inside the room. Using the houses own wiring to set this electronic signal around seemed unlikely, but worth a try........AND IT WORKS! When you plug it in, it seems to make things worse for a while, but that is because it is making the rats run around.....keep it going and they will move out.

IT WORKS! HURRAH!! [See follow-up to this review].
Desparate to get rid of whatever is in the loft and didn't want to put down poison etc. Bought this with fingers crossed and so far so good. I have it placed on my landing below the loft hatch and due to the electromagnetics this appears to be reaching the loft without difficulty and I have not heard any noises from the critters [rats or squirrels] since plugging it in!!! What more can you ask for? I did of course check that the problem was not bats since as these are protected I would not have been able to use this item had they been the problem! I really wasn't sure if this would travel through the walls but it does appear to be doing so plus the ultrasonic side is an added boost. I have a dog and she is not bothered by the ultrasonic deterrent part but if any animals do come to the house that are disturbed by it I can always switch to the "pet" mode and all should be OK. If in doubt it is very little cost compared with calling out a pest control specialist so I would recommend giving it a try.Follow-up:-Oh dear - a week on and the rats are back thundering around the loft. I moved this from the landing to the bedroom to see if this would change things and it was fine again for a couple of days then back came the pesky pests. I have given up and resorted to pest controller and poison - not what I wanted but cannot put up with any more sleepless nights. It may well be OK for others but obviously is not working anymore for me and since I have no power sockets in the loft have no other options available. Thank goodness for the Amazon return policy!

Strange effects which I was not expecting, and they cleared when I stopped using this Home Sentinel
Definitely clears spiders and possibly mice. I put it on continuous use with all of it's functions switched on, and I notice all spiders gone within a day or so and they stayed away. It will not remove woodlice nor mites nor other insects, only spiders. Not sure about mice, they did return but not stay long, it didn't eradicate them completely. One thing which worried me and the reason I plugged it out and have not used it again. is that it reacts with the electrics in your home. Within a week of constant use, my washing machine became really noisy and laborious and sounded like it was about to go, at the same time, the same thing happened with my fridge freezer, it's motor became very loud and noisy and I thought that was going to have to be replaced also. Thinking it was a bit of coincidence I tried unplugging the Home Sentinel. Within a day or so both my machines became quiet again and starting running again as normal, there were no other changes in my kitchen or home to explain this. Has anybody else noticed an effect on their electrics or equipment from using this Home Sentinel.

Not sure if it worked.
Seemed to do the job initially, but I still had a mouse on going mouse problem. I have just given an extra star because the blue light light of the hallway - useful for night time visits to the bathroom.I found the solution to be identifying the entry point of the mouse and either sealing it and/or purchasing a good quality rat (rather then mouse) trap where the mouse will walk straight into it. I have one of the large white plastic ones. I don't think I am allowed to name the retailer.

Amazing
I bought these as my son told me he could hear scratching in the corner of his lounge. A dead mouse had already been found in the cellar and poison was put down (this remains untouched) but the scratching continued. I found these plugs on Amazon and read the reviews, ordered them and they arrived next day. I put one in the lounge and the other in the cellar. My son reports that since the plugs went in less than a week ago he hasn't seen or heard anything of the mice. The scratching stopped overnight. We are all amazed and his girlfriend is relieved as she is terrified of mice. This is a fantastic product and really does work. I highly recommend them.

do I have ultrasonic hearing?
Upon receiving this product it seems neat, simple and easy to use. I opted to use this without the night light as it is plugged in my kitchen so no need (it's not near the fridge). The reason why I have only rated this a 2 star is down to the fact I can hear noises from the unit quite obviously. There is a really high pitch sound that I can continuously hear and then I also hear from time to time what I can only describe as a fly catcher sound but very muted. I have asked my girlfriend if she can hear it and she says no, so is this just my hearing? Should I be able to hear this scratching electric sound?? Has anyone else had issues with hearing this? It's currently set to pet mode off (only because there are cats next door and they keep entering my garden). Any advise would be welcomed.

Harray! It works!
Over the moon with this product, I was skeptical at first as to whether I should make the purchase due to some people saying it didn't work for them, however, I have a huge fear of vermins and took the risk. I can say I have not been disappointed, my bedroom is in the loft and I would get mice on a regular basis over a period of 8 months or so. Since having this I have not had any mice at all in my room, they have been in the house (i.e. kitchen) but not in my room at all since the day I've been using it. I would recommend getting one in every room of your house since it does not work for the whole house.
