OXO Good Grips Poultry Shears

I bought these as a present and they are really nicely made.The handles are coated in very grippy rubber and the lower section has a guard to stop your fingers slipping. The blades are really sharp and the two blade sections can be separated for cleaning.It also has a little lock to keep the blades together which is a nice touch, especially given how sharp they are.Update: After a year of use these are still going strong, I have personally used them now and they are the most comfortable pair of scissors I have ever used. I have large hands and most other scissors are slightly too small, but the oversized grips on these fit my hands.They also work well for things like dried meat strips for dogs, which are very difficult to cut with normal scissors.Although they are fairly expensive I do think you are getting what you pay for, so are worth the investment.

These are really good scissors for cutting tough things. The main target is chicken bones, but they do well on other stuff you might hesitate to tackle with ordinary scissors. Your fingers go through the hole in the lower handle and your palm grips the upper handle against a spring. This means that you don't need to use your thumb to make a cut and you can use the whole strength of your hand.The two halves come apart for cleaning, so you don't need to worry about grunge and corrosion hiding inside the joint. When you put them together they fit precisely, so no wobbles or gaps between the blades.The only downside is that the cutting edge is only at the forward end of the blades: if you open them wide to cut cardboard like you would with normal scissors nothing happens. This design makes sense for poultry bones, but you need to keep it in mind for other stuff.We had a pair of these for many years. Eventually the spring broke, so now we've bought another pair. The spring is the only reason I gave it 4 stars for sturdiness; its clearly the weakest point in the design. But don't let that put you off; these scissors will still give you years of good service.

I feed raw food to my dogs and bought the shears to split the large chicken carcasses I often get. Couldn't believe how easily they cut through them. They're quick and easy to take apart for washing too. Wish I'd bought them sooner instead of struggling on with my old ones.

It seems sturdy and fairly sharp. Ot takes a bit of getting used to the handle, but that's probably down to me.I'll update after 6 months

Great piece of kitchen kit. Well made and sturdy and makes spatchcocking a chicken very quick and simple. Wish I'd bought them years ago, really! Easy to take apart for cleaning too. Some people claim to find the safety catch fiddly but I don't at all. I think a safety catch needs effort to release otherwise it isn't really a safety catch is it?! I highly recommend these shears and although OXO tools do cost a little more than some other brands, the quality makes the added expense worthwhile.

Always wanted one of these and this works well because the easy grip plus powerful leverage means you can cut through chicken bones with ease. For hygiene, you can section/quarter/portion a bird within the original wrapping so that risks of cross contamination are reduced or eliminated. It comes apart with a single click so that all parts can be cleaned. Can also be used as kitchen scissors to cut off - for example - tough fish fins.

Very good, surprised how strong these are and a bit scary to use as they are so good. Only thing didn't like was the fact that it comes apart, but understandable for washing purposes. Just need to keep this in mind when using
