This DVD takes you right back to the beginning, when HFW planted his first broad beans and took delivery of his prime Gloucester Old Spots. I love this series and being able to sit back and luxuriate in the albeit rose-tinted version of self-sufficiency espoused by HFW is a real treat.I love the food. It's real food, robust and never poncy. It always makes me want to get into the kitchen and make a mess.I love the idyllic setting. Dorset is beautiful and the bits near Bridport and Beaminster are especially good. Hugh has a natural presenting style and you can see the affection and good humour he and his new found friends feel for one another is genuine.I'm already looking for my own 'River Cottage', somewhere deep in the countryside. And after watching this ground-breaking series my guess is that you will be downsizing too.

Great condition

This is the best DVD I have bought so far. Hugh is a great character. It must be everyone’s dream to do what he has done, get yourself a lovely cottage and some land and just live in the peace and tranquillity of a flowing river.Hugh has many different characters visit his cottage for food and he narrates the whole DVD wonderfully. He also manages to do that naughty thing of getting drunk with the lads.This is a must for cooking fans and also fans of Hugh, GET IT NOW!

I was traveling in Europe for two months and had the opportunity to watch this program when in Dover and loved it. I wanted to show my US friends this wonderful program and ordered the DVD (even though the current exchange rate makes this quite expensive). We were not disappointed with any of the programs and loved the Christmas special. After watching each of the programs, I have the overwhelming desire to drop all I do and move out to the country. This program is wonderful. Please continue the show and the DVDs. Thank you.

This is a great DVD and all Hugh's programmes are very enjoyable. It was a long wait for River Cottage fans but at last all Hugh's TV programmes are on DVD. He is an excellent presenter and comes across as a really nice guy. You can watch the programmes just as entertainment or even start to dream of escaping to the country too. Over all it shows country life as it is. I should know I live in the Cotswolds where Hugh grew up.

A delightful DVD which shows the good life can be had through hard work and understanding what you want from life.

The series that began the River Cottage phenomenon, and still the best part as it shows River Cottage when it was a dream rather than a business venture.

Ich würde ihn von der Wichtigkeit mit Jamie Oliver gleichsetzen, wobei beide Ansätze unterschiedlich sind.HFW studierte Theologie, Philosophie und Psychologie in Oxford. Nach dem Studium arbeitete er als Sous Chef im Londoner River Café. Danach arbeitete er als Journalist für die Zeitschriften/Zeitungen Punch, Evening Standard, Sunday Times im Bereich Ernährung und Restauration. 1998 begann seine Arbeit im Fernsehen mit den 'TV Dinners'.Die River Cottage Serie lief beim englischen Channel 4 ab 1999. In dieser Serie zieht HFW von London auf's Land und zieht in ein kleines Cottage mit gepachtetem Feldern ein.Dies wird begleitet von einem Camerateam, daß man als solches nicht sieht. HFW beginnt ein Leben mit allen Aspekten eines Selbstversorgers und nimmt den Zuschauer mit und erklärt spannend und unterhaltsam, wie das Leben eines Selbstversorgers im englischen Dorset stattfindet.Escape to River Cottage ist Teil eins von drei Folgen.Fazit:Diese Serie ist einfach perfekt für alle interessierten Leute am Selbstversorgerthemen. Ob Pflanzen, Tiere oder soziales Umfeld, HFW macht eine interessante Welt auf, in der man einfach selber teilhaben möchte. Es ist DIE Fernsehserie für Selbstversorger.Mittlerweile habe ich alle drei Teile dieser Serie mehr als ein dutzend Mal gesehen und kann mich nicht sattsehen daran.Kaufen - Ansehen - und Schwärmen !
