Does the job well!
Spectacular. Does the job and keeps my japanese knives sharp and ready for action. If you're not used to this kind of sharpener, I'd advise to watch a video first as you can end up scraping your knife in ways that are not ideal.

Poor Finishing of Block Stand
The actual sharpening block is fine but holding stand was poorly finished with the rubber grip base badly glued on so that some of the rubber grip over sails the block on the other side it doesn't cover the base. The wood within the stand is also rotten. Please see attached photos. I did ask the seller to send me a new stand but they have not bothered to reply to my request.I am pleased to say that the seller came back to me on this and sent me a new item. I am now very pleased with the purchase.

A medative process .....
Certainly hones knife edges well, particularly my more expensive knives. Cheap paring knife from Tesco is less successful, but says more about the knife than this sharpening stone.I take my time sharpening knives - probably around 60 mins for 9 knives. They come out with super sharp edges, and much safer to use. I'm sure that edges would be even sharper with greater care and duration.Lots of YouTube vids available which show the general technique. Just remember to pre-soak the stone for, I'd at say least an hour, longer if possible, and constantly wet both knife and stone when in use.Have a damp cloth to hand to regularly wipe the knife blade to remove the fine burrs. One final thought, place stone and its frame on a tea towel. I know that the base is ribbed and sticks well, but better safe than sorry. Always handle knives with care.
