Terrific paint
Hammerite is tried and tested but having not used any for a while I was really pleased to find that the paint is still very good quality and nice to use. And this sage green is a lovely colour. The cast iron bench I painted was originally very dark green and had got quite rusty. I sandpapered off the loose bits and washed off the dust, which is what it tells you to do on the tin. It is nice paint to use, not too drippy, but not too thick either. It is touch dry within about an hour and dry enough to re-coat after 4 hours. I did give this 2 coats as the first coat wasn't quite enough to cover the original dark colour but the finish after 2 coats is really good. No primer needed and the rust has vanished. Cleaning the brush does need a heavy duty cleaner, but a very excellent tip: between coats wrap the brush in cling film and put it in the freezer. Then when you need to paint again, give the brush about 5 minutes to thaw and away you go with no cleaning up and mess in between. When you have finally finished then you can clean the brush (or throw it away!) but you will need a special cleaner as white spirit won't do it very well.

Excellent at protecting outdoor metals.
This item is purchased for a sole purpose, protecting our large swing chair frame from the outdoor elements, which is does perfectly. Our frame is out in all weathers, as it is very big and it is easier to treat with Hammerite, than taking it apart every year and assembling it the next. The proof in the pudding, is that our frame shows no signs of rust at all and it is fourteen years old now, even on the swing points where the swing chair is attached to the frame. We paint the frame every two years with the same colour paint, as Wild Thyme is a lovely colour for the frame, not too soft or too hard in colour and compliments any garden. We find that the paint goes on really well, it covers well to and goes a long way, but never use Hammerite paint on a hot day, it must be used on a cool dry day, cool and overcast is perfect, as it starts to cure quite quickly when you paint with it. On a hot day it is not possible to paint and get a perfect finish, as the frame is quite warm to start with and the air is also hot, so the paint will gloop up in these conditions and not cover and spread nicely.Used correctly, this is the perfect product for using on metal-based items that you want to protect year after year.

Looks good - persevere with it.
The first coat was a struggle to use - so thick and streaky and at that moment I wish I had not started but the 2nd coat went on a heck of a lot better. Had to use 2 x 750 ml tins to cover both coats. Let's just see how it lasts in the weather.

Great finish to an old garage door
Bought 750ml Hammerite Wild Thyme to paint a garage door. Needed two pots in the end. Sanded garage before painting. First coat seemed quite 'gloopy' to put on and seemed to leave brush marks when back painting to the previous area painted but lines in the paint disappeared by the time it had dried. It needed a second coat as you could still see the previous torquoise colour in places. The second coat was so much easier to apply, a smooth, consistent finish and uniform sheen.

From a total novice!
As a complete novice I painted my large garden gate with this amazing paint!! Not much prep I must admit but looks lovely and the colour is uplifting for passers by!

Glutinous but does its job
Glutinious, thick, sticky paint to apply to metal garden furnitire but, as long as the metal is prepared, it does what it says on the tin and covers rusted parts easily. Two coats are necessary for a good finish.

Coverage is pretty good and the colour pleasing in the garden.
Hammerite paint is pretty reliable - I've used it many times before. The only small niggle is clean up after use - leave the paint on the brush for more than a few minutes and cleaning brushes can take longer than the paint job.

Pleased with purchase
Not a bad paint but didn’t seem as thick as I used years ago when painting motors but might be just a different type of Hammerite but still did the job and I am pleased with the colour and Finnish
