I bought this seed starter kit to grow dahlia seeds during the winter. It works great...the heat mat that goes underneath amazingly created a humidity chamber for the seeds to thrive to there maximum capabilities!Very impressed with the fast results~ the trays are perfect size and the level of drainage is perfect for seed starting. Also, the dome cover is tall and sturdy.The answer is to leave your trays on the heat mats 24 hrs/day until you see sprouts. everything you need to get started is included and Took minutes to set up ~ very simplistic design.Very happy. Would buy again.

It works very well, like the vents. I haven't tried the heating mat yet, no need to so far.

This is easy to set up and comes with several "tools" to help you sow seeds. The plastic tray and cover are not all that sturdy but also not terribly fragile. I like that the seedling tray is reusable - but you definitely need your seedlings to root quite a bit to be able to pull them out in a solid chunk. The mat definitely helps the seeds germinate quicker - I had gerber daisy's sprouting in less than a week.Learning the correct amount to water is a little tricky since the "dome" traps in a lot of moisture - and they recommend watering the lower tray and not the soil.My only real con is that the dome tray gets a lot of condensation and lifting it up or jostling it a little will get water all over the counter/table/heated mat. Just have a towel with you when you check on your seedlings and its fine.

this thing ruined my entire tray of expensive heirloom seeds starts. For the first day or so the heat from the mat seemed almost undetectable, but on the third day I went to the garage to find it too hot to touch and my seedlings all dead and fried. Used my laser thermometer and the mat was 152°F!! $60 of seeds ruined.

I loved the ease of it but none of the seeds in the middle cells sprouted- only the ones on the perimeter. I think it’s because the heat was unevenly distributed on the heating pad and the middle ones dried up too quickly. I even added more water to them but even when the outside cells were still moist, the inner ones were dry!

My cat loves it so much. It’s very quiet and have a big capacity. I only need to refill it once a week.

I've been quite happy with this little planter. I've used it to start both periwinkles and bermuda grass to plug bare spots in my yard. If you put it outside be sure to set something on top of it to keep the plastic cover from blowing away. I used a rock.
