Our placemats are slightly textured so are not completely smooth. Contrary to another reply to this question please do NOT use baby wipes to clean our placemats (or in our opinion any food surface) - baby wipes are full of all sorts of chemicals including phenoxyethanol, malic acid, tocopheryl acetate and propylene glycol! To care for our placemats simply wipe them clean after use with a soft cloth - a mild detergent such as Fairy Liquid is fine.
