Perfect for a young beginner
Brilliant book for young students beginning the piano. I teach primary school piano and used to use John Thomson's Easiest Piano book. I have now switched to Me and My Piano and found that students enjoy it much more and learn more from it. Rather than having to explain time signatures, note values, fingering, AND two clefs on the first page, Me and My Piano starts off with playing just the right hand to make sure that the student understand how to read rhythms before confusing them with the bass clef. Then the left hand is introduced separately, which proceeds to playing hands together.I feel that this is a much better way of teacher the younger student and the kids love the songs with the lyrics underneath that they can sing along to. The teacher accompaniment is also very simple which allows you to concentrate on the student's playing rather than your own.

A way to get your children to learn an instrument and read music.
I've been keen for my children to learn musical instruments and to learn to read music. It's a great skill that you can use all through your life. It's been quite difficult to get my eldest away from technology but these learn piano books have been successful once I have removed her fireHd pad.I listen to her working through the lessons and clearly it's helping. These books are a great way to work out if your child has any talent or inclination to persue music before paying an expensive music teacher.

A great introduction to piano playing
I bought this to teach my 5 year old daughter whenever she comes to the piano when I'm playing. It is nicely organised, starting by introducing the concept of rhythm and counting, the notes in the basic C major 5 finger position in both hands, then eventually to simple tunes, first for single hand then both together, progressively getting more difficult. A nice mix of simplified traditional tunes and new compositions. My daughter loves the illustrations and is impatient to play the tunes on the pages with her favourite pictures. All in all this seems like a great introductory piano book.

My son has had success with this book
My 9-year old son has a piano lesson at school for about 30 minutes each week. They use this book. The book is divided into 3 sections. The first introduces right-hand playing, the second introduces left-hand playing, and the final section combines the two (although not simultaneously - that comes later). After just 1 and a half terms, my son has moved on to the next book in this series having mastered all the songs in this book to a reasonable level.I'm seriously considering using it myself, now.

Very nice book
a very popular beginners book, nice and colorful and by the most famous fanny waterman. I do tend to use Young beginners books more with the CD as they progress slower, so for a 5 yr to 7yr, unless they practise at least 1hr and 30min a week or more, I would go for the other book 1 and then you can switch to book 2 of this series. I find most of my students these days don';t get enough practise in due to ALL the activities they are doing!

Love this book...
I have used this book for 7 years - it is the best one I have come across for teaching beginners. Keeps things easy - everything stays in the middle C position and just uses crotchets, minims, dotted minims and semi breves. No quavers or more complicated rhythms in this book. Not so keen on part 2, I tend to use other books after this one, but I think this is the best introduction for the young beginner.

Easy to use
Not sure this is the appropriate book for my 8 year old but it was recommended by her piano teacher. As a grade 4 violinist starting piano, this has been very easy. She is almost half way through the book after a couple of lessons. Granted she was self-learning before getting formal instruction. All the local young pianists use this and like it though. Easy to understand with fun tunes.

I'm an adult and it's working for me!
I love this book! My piano teacher uses it for all ages so I bought it immediately and use it every day. For years, decades actually, I've been flirting with playing the piano and now, thanks to this cute book and my great teacher, it's happening!
