RotosoundSwing Bass 66 LD

Cheap, Effective Upgrade for Cheap Bass.
I was persuaded to take up bass again late last year after a 15-year hiatus from playing. Not sure whether it was worth spending loads, I bought a dirt-cheap Harley Benton JB20 from Thomann.de, about £78. It's not that bad, but wasn't quite good enough and once we were up and running, our drummer sourced me another bass. My fingers were never really made for bass, even at my age they are far too soft, so I put some nice Rotosound nylon-coated strings on it. However the sound is too smooth for one or two tracks we do, and reading the reviews here, I thought, why not try these strings on the Harley - so I did.Wow - what a transformation. They looked much the same as the ones I took off, but even without plugging into an amp, I could suddenly hear this loud, lively, twangy sound which wasn't there before. For a total of about £95 I now have a very usable bass, with a lively "Who" type sound, which I used for the first time in rehearsal for songs that I thought needed that more upfront sound. If you have a slightly dead-sounding bass, these should liven it up for you.I can't say they are right for everybody, but if you read this and other reviews already here, you'll know exactly what they can do, and at this price you can't argue.

Classic strings
Excellent - I was worried that they might be too harsh on the fingers, or too harsh sounding according to some reviews. In fact they feel great and don't create a lot of fret noise or clacking. Soundwise they just rock and encourage bad behaviour! These are real living classics and sound just right for what I want - 60s and 70s hard rock on my precision bass copy. The price I paid was a steal considering they are stainless steel and I expect them to last a long time. They are a perfect opposite match to my other bass which has smooth and deep sounding flatwounds fitted. These Rotosound 66 are great strings.

Best Bass strings I've heard
I own a very cheap bass guitar (Johnny Brook) which I bought for only £70 new. As I am primarily a guitarist not a bassist I really only play bass for the purposes of recording at home, so wasn't really that bothered too much about the sound or keen on spending much on a bass. However, when I replaced the original standard strings with these it completely transformed the sound, making it sound like a far more expensive and quality instrument. Honestly I cannot emphasise enough how much of a difference these strings have made, the tone is so much brighter, fuller and expressive than before. These are truly the best bass strings I've heard and have made me want to get a better quality instrument deserving of them.

Fantastic
Ok, i got these because of Geddy Lee. The sound they make on a Fender Jazz, is incredible. I used to stick with nickel wound strings because they always sounded brighter, but these give a much more varied tone. I'll be sticking with these going forward. They hold their tone really well too.

New favourite strings
Felt very rough at first compared to what was on my bass when I bought it but soon got used to them. They give the tone a nice bit of "bark" when digging in to the strings. My new standard strings.

fender jazz and fender precision and all are sounding great with these strings
finally found what my bass was missing. I tried many other strings and now will not buy any other. I have a music mann, fender jazz and fender precision and all are sounding great with these strings.

Great company. I wish more online sellers were like ...
I messed up with my order and got the wrong gauge strings. The very kind people at Ebony & Ivory changed them for me with no fuse what-so-ever. Great company. I wish more online sellers were like Ebony and Ivory, they are keen that you get what you need and are happy to help. The stings they sent back were brilliant too.
