Just What I Was Looking For
I’ve only been using Procreate for a few months now. I’ve done a lot of the online tutorials and bought all the previous books, but this one covers my preferred material subject…landscapes and architecture. While I got a lot out of the previous books, they all spend half of the book covering the tools and features of Procreate. This book assumes you know the basic functions of Procreate, which I appreciate. The tutorials are detailed and explained clearly. My favorite of all the Procreate books.

It arrived faster than expected. The price was good. One of my favorite procreate teaching books from 3dtotal publishing.

So very nice
As with all 3dtotal books, this is a real treat to look at and use, with lush imagery and demos throughout. Basically the book takes you through a generous number of example projects as it throws all the Procreate tips and composition lessons at you.. but at a natural easy-to-absorb pace. Enough projects to keep you busy for a long while, generates excitement within. I like how it gradually trains you to see in helpful ways and connect to this app the way you would with 2d drawing or painting techniques. Normalize Procreate as a drawing tool and enjoy.Though I don't know if I would dare to take the 'good iPad' out for a plein air trip in the big city, especially at sunset.. this book is also perfect for landscape sketching and drawing from photo sources as well. If you are totally sick of drawing humanoids or the usual, digital landscape painting is a wonderful way to clear the mind, get a little abstract if you wish, and explore the many lights and textures possible in Procreate.

Lacked Practical Outdoor Advice
This is a great book for learning how to do landscapes from photographic reference. But not Plein Air. Virtual plein air, yes, but not actually outdoors. Almost every contributor skips that part, and it they were probably editorially directed to do so.This book contains almost no advice on how to set up an outdoor easel for digital outdoor painting, equipment and supplies for outdoor work like tripods, dealing with light, battery power, etc.Instead, this book deals with composition, layering choices, etc. It's a "how to paint landscapes from photographs indoors". And that's not my definition of plein air, nor most of the traditional art world's. I think the title is a complete misnomer and probably selected to imply the book was about something it wasn't so they could appeal to more purchasers.I would not recommend this book to anyone actually wanting to learn how to paint outdoors with Procreate. While the content is interesting, it's not what the title implies. I personally feel like I've been bait-and-switched.
