Which way?
Performs adequately the function it was designed for. Has a good range of adjustment to cover most required flow rates. Appears to be well made & of substantial quality. Beware on opening the valve first time. It only turns one way & is very stiff, it could be an accident waiting to happen if it is forced the wrong way. Suggest you sort this out before fitting. Could save a lot of problems if the valve had a directional arrow to show which way to turn it. Easily accommodated on plastic injection moulded items. Food for thought Blagdon. Otherwise happy with the purchase.

Leaking issue.
Overall it’s a nice product and does the job, however if you are using the common corrugated plastic pond tubing, it will leak where it attaches to the valve fittings. This is because it is just plastic on plastic with nothing to seal it. Two methods I have used with success are; using an outdoor waterproof sealant on the valve fitting before pushing the hose on and securing with a hose clamp (let the sealant dry before use) And using a piece of bicycle tire inner tube on the valve fitting, and sliding the hose over it and securing with a clamp. Both of these methods have worked for me, and hold under about a metre or so of head (pressure). I gave this 3 stars because I think it should come with some kind of sealing kit, given that many people use plastic pond tubing.

Perfect
I brought this product as I have recently installed a UV filter into my pond system, the water pressure was to fast meaning the filter wasn't having the required slower paced water induction it needed to be fully effective. The one thing I will say, like others have on here is that the initial twist to is very stiff, saying that any moron can work out which way it is supposed to be twisted just apply steady pressure . If you are not that strong or struggling apply a little WD40 or some other type of lubricant to ease the process. I would liken it to the first crack when you loosen wheels bolts on a car wheel.Very good product, looks robust and does the job. When setting the flow, do it in very small twists and allow time for the water to go through you system and settle down as it wont be immediate.

Feels cheap and flimsy, and leaks
Valve very stiff to move initially, and almost impossible to stop it dripping from it's internal seals. It also doesn't feel particularly sturdy, so am wary that it might break at some point as some other reviewers have experienced....however, now it's in place it's doing exactly what is intended, slowing the flow rate from the pond pump into the filter box, and it's easy to set the desired rate.

FEELS QUITE STURDY FOR BEING PLASTIC
FEELS QUITE STURDY FOR BEING PLASTIC,A LOT LARGER THAN IMAGINED BUT NOT A FAULTUNLESS YOU ARE TIGHT FOR ROOMI WILL INSULATE MINE OVER WINTER MONTHS ASI DONT KNOW HOW BRITTLE IT WILL GET.IS A LITTLE TIGHT TO OPEN BUT PAY ATTENTION TO THE DIRECTION FOR OPENINGFOR THE PRICE IT REALLY CANT BE FAULTED

Not perfect
Like many very difficult to give initial turn. Try standing it in hot water. A direction arrow would also help. Drips slightly when reducing flow inspite of recycling washer and tightening. Annoying this was main reason for buying this replacement.

after that they are fine, (what I did used to work it back ...
I have bought 2 lots of 2 of these, Maidenhead aquatics charges £27.00 each.. I have solvent bonded these to 1 1/2 wastepipe, by cutting back to the 1 1/2 fitting ( do allow time to go off.. ) I have used them on my home made 3 barrel pond filter system.. NOTE the first turn can be stiff, after that they are fine, (what I did used to work it back and forth for a few minutes to settle the ball valve in..)

Don't waste your money
I bought this flow reducer valve as the water flow was too fast for my water fall, I chose Blagdon as I thought it was the better brand, but after fitting the valve in I have more water wastage when I reduce theflow than I had before. On full flow there is no leaks, but as soon as I try to restrict the flow the water drips and sprays out of the body of the valve. Very disappointed with this Blagdon product, a waste of money.

Started leaking after only 8 months
Bought on 14/09/2022, installed it just a few days later. I wanted to increase the water flow for summer so I made a small adjustment. Immediately, the valve started leaking. Going forward, I'll just run a straight tube and won't bother with a valve.

Crap
Just over a year old, turned the pond pump on for spring and this part has come clean off at some point during the winter. Looks like the cement used to stick it together has just dried out, absolute rubbish, don’t waster your money.

You get what you pay for.
The handle instantly broke the first time I tried to turn it. The locking tabs that hold the handle in place came off.

No problems with this item! Until Now!!!!
I was wary of buying this because of previous reviews but I think I know why it got a bad write up.When turning the tap it is essential to apply light but slowly increasing pressure until it starts to turn. it can only turn one way and I suspect that's why someone broke their tap.I have had no problems with the item and as long as you are not heavy handed turning the tap it should last for years.UPDATE 15.7.13Woke up to find pond half empty! Reason: This product had decided to come apart where the ball valve is connected for no reason at all! I could understand this happening if it was being used under extreme pressure but I am only using a small oase pump and its only pumping up less than 1m head to a filter with very little back pressure!DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM please learn from my experience.I have now fitted a gate valve and although expensive its working fine.I will be avoiding Blagden valves in the future.
