Budgie - Budgie (1971)
This album originally saw the light of day in 1971 and must easily be one of the most under-rated debut albums of the decade. This hard rocking debut has such classic tunes as "Guts" and "Homicidal Suicidal" and would influence bands such as Metallica and Soundgarden who have bothered covered tracks that appear on this album.A near perfect debut from the Welsh Rock legendsTrack listingsAll songs written and composed by Burke Shelley, Tony Bourge and Ray Phillips.1. Awesome!
Just got into Budgie less than a week ago and I've now got the 1st 4 albums. And let me tell ya they must be one of the underrated bands of all time. Maybe it's the band name "Budgie" that played a part in that, who knows? But they are heavy and absolutely incredible.Everything from the guitar riffs, the incredible bass playing and the solid drumming is so good.I'll be getting the rest of the back catalogue in time.If you like Sabbath and the likes then buy this album then the rest. You won't be disappointed.

After all these years, it's still great!
I must admit here and now that, originally, I didn't care for Budgie. I saw them live at a pub called the Fforde Grene in Leeds circa 1974 and a couple of times more over the next three years. They performed some of this, their first and self-titled album, some of "Squawk", "Never Turn Your Back On a Friend" & "In For The Kill" over that time. Since then I have grown to love Budgie's music and their great song titles, under the realisation that they really do grow on you - a bit like watching a little 'un develop into a "Six Ton Budgie"! Sorry about that.My favourite tracks on this album are "Guts", "The Author", "Nude Disintegrating Parachutist Woman", "Rape Of The Locks" and the sensational "Homicidal Suicidal". If you buy this album - crank up the volume, fasten your seat belt, sit back and enjoy!I now recommend Budgie to all music lovers, purely and simply because they're great!

Great rock music
Despite the daft name, Budgie are arguably one of the greatest and earliest pioneers of heavy metal. There is a lot of debate about who came first or inspired whom among Black Sabbath fans and Budgie fans... I love both bands and I don't care either way! The tracks 'Guts' and 'Homicidal Suicidal' are great examples of Budgie's talent and well worth the album cost in my opinion. They do tend to lose themselves in guitar solos, but who cares when they're this good?Plenty of tracks available on Youtube, give them a whirl and prepare to find your a new favourite band.

The original innovators of truly Heavy Rock.
The greatest pioneers of heavy rock, terribly underestimated in their time. This remastered recording actually captures most of the heavy sound they were famous for, better than the first CD release although the original LP record if you can find it is still the best.

Hard Rock masterclass.
One of the greatest debut albums by any british rock band..... EVER! Remember chasing all over Yorkshire in 1971 trying to buy the original vinyl album, after hearing Nude Disintegrating Parachutist Woman on late night Radio Luxemburg. Old school seventies rock doesn't come any better then this. On the down side, for this remastered album, the 2003 version of Guts is a waste of space, proving that you cannot improve on perfection.

Where it all started...
First and probably the best example of a classic sound from this Welsh rock band. Recorded as live, with very few overdubs, gives the record incredible energy. The extra tracks, in particular "Crash Course in Brain Surgery" make this excellent value for money.
