Excellent, get one, and you will never use any other of your knives
Really excellent, comfortable to use, wonderfully sharp out of the box, handles well, and once used it becomes the tool you reach for when preparing vegetables. This is heavier than the other nakiri knife I have, and also rather wider. It is part way to a traditional vegetable cleaver, but much easier to handle, and lighter. It came out of the box with a nice factory edge, ready for use, and passes the usual sharpness tests perfectly. The dimpling is presumably intended to reduce sticking of food when slicing. It helps to some extent, the slices seem to slide off more easily than on a completely smooth blade, but they do still stick. It looks and feels like a quality item, and when you use it you realize what a difference a real quality product makes. Finely chopping vegetables for instance is so much quicker and easier than even with a well sharpened good brand German chef's knife. The tip is squared off and not pointed, of course, but if this worries you, don't let it. As soon as you use this you realize that you don't need the traditional chef's knife point at all.It is unlike the other nakiri in having a sharp pointed corner at the tip. This turns out to be quite useful in fine cutting of celery or carrots, where the procedure is first to slice into julienne strips and then to chop finely.Get it, you will be glad you did. On sale its a bargain. At full price its an excellent buy too. This is a lifetime purchase, and one of your children will be using it for their lifetime too.Sharpening (as with all Asian kitchen knives) takes some care. Either get an Arkansas fine or extra fine oil stone, 8 x 2 inches, and be very careful to get the angle right, or get a pull through sharpener SPECIFICALLY MADE FOR ASIAN KNIVES. The angle of these is more acute than European ones, and using a European pull-through will ruin the edge.

Good quality blade, however damaged (EDIT)
Overall the knife is good quality, sharp blade, sturdy and comfortable and looks really nice.Unfortunately however the tip of the knife I received was bent, severely over worked whilst sharpening by the looks of it. bought this knife for its ability to do delicate work and is now effectively useless to me.EDIT)After my review the company kindly sent me out a replacement knife within 4 days, this knife is all of the above with a straight blade.I’ve used it in the kitchen for multiple tasks and it’s flown through every task with absolute ease, highly recommend for its price.

Practical & great to use
Required that "one" kitchen chefs knife for myself that would get used daily for food prep, yet wanted quality & precision.Researched options for a while & selected this one MITSUMOTO SAKARI 8 inch Professional Hand Forged Kitchen Chef Knife, Japanese Kitchen Gyuto Knife, 3 Layers High Carbon Kitchen Knife (Rosewood Handle & Gift Box)Gift box -- excellent (would buy this as a present for someone and feel that it would impress as they opened it)Actual knife -- It is an absolute pleasure to use (carefully) all the time and have no regretsVery sharp, heavy enough feel wielding it yet precise & very pragmatic day to day knife that suits me down to the ground.A tool to look after properly and enjoy using it in the food preparation work (vege / meat etc)

Blade is broken.
Hi, this was the second knife I brought from yourselves at the same time as the first one to find there was a defect with the first blade. I had the other one sent as a gift and I was not surprised to find that the blade in now broken. I was really hoping that this one would hold up but I guess not. I will be looking to recieve a refund for this product aswell. It such a shame considering they are a nice looking product but sadly do not live up to the expectation I had for this blade.

Kept up for over a year in a professional kitchen with sharpness
I have used this knife in a professional kitchen for over a year now, and with regular sharpening it has kept up very well, especially compared to others - unfortunately it has chipped in two places due to mishandling by colleagues so its durability in that regards isnt the best. The comfort and size is perfect for my hands and use, it feels one of the most comfortable knives to hold once you get used to the grip
