Leave it running in auto is very quiet when on the low setting. Gets louder on the higher setting. But this only happends when the air quality is poor. Am a bit conserened regarding replacment filters. They are extreamly expensive .. Review: Build quality is good and the air quality sensor is handy - I bought this to replace a much cheaper Bionaire unit which will effective was too noisy to use in a bedroom. This is much quieter while seemingly as effective. Build quality is good and the air quality sensor is handy. My main gripe with it is that it defaults to auto mode which has one big problem - when it goes dark the unit shuts down completely. I can see the point, maybe, during the night, but even at this time of year it is a pain that it turns off at about 8pm and in winter it will never be on. I have to bypass this and put it on the lowest fan setting at night but then if the air quality drops it doesn't change speed to respond. I am suffering from hay fever. Would it still make a difference?** A: I also suffer a lot from hayfever but earlier in the year (tree pollen), and I can't sleep without a window open. What I found to be the best strategy for me (if you can bear it) is to close the bedroom windows during the day when the pollen is much more active and gets into the room, and run the HEPA to keep the air clean in the bedroom. When you go to bed open the window, and continue to leave the HEPA running through the night. I found this worked for me, but if the weather is hot at the present time your bedroom may get hot during the day so maybe draw the curtains/blinds during the day too?. Anyone own both?** A: As was going to purchase Philips AC3256/60 or this Winix,found out that Winix had over 20 yrs solely producing quality Air purifying equipment. This is the best designed air purifier I have had in the last 15 years and have tried quite a few. The WINIX U300 is very quiet on the slowest speed but is as near silent when it is auto mode and dark. Full speed and it will clear your room very quickly.
