Great for the price! Bright enough to work on engine!
So I just installed this on my classic car. Let me first state, that you'll notice the fuse is on the ground side!I STRONGLY recommend removing that (or keep it also but it's not needed if you do this) and place it in between the power sources positive + side instead! This will be FAR safer (and it will be how ALL your other factory wires will be too). I don't know why they are pre-wiring this incorrectly for you but it's very easily switched. Now, after installing my OWN fuse holder (for common ATO fuses) in the positive side, I was pleasantly surprised with how bright it was. FAR, FAR, FAR brighter than any little under hood light bulb they put on cars back in the 60's of course but not just that, it's actually bright enough, that if it were pitch black and I had engine trouble, I wont need to get out an external light source or anything. That is, if it's not something way down low, like down by the oil filter or something of course but the whole upper engine, and both fenders are lit right up nice and bright, you could repair, change a belt, swap and alternator, power steering pump, fix a lose hose clamp, anything really.Even if I were at the house, if I wanted to tinker with anything like add a dress up item to the engine after dark, I wont even bother getting out an external light, it's just bright enough as is.It's very affordable. If this lasts, which I mean, it's LED, it should, It's worth it's price all easy. I ordered another one for the trunk. I'll be installing directly from the factory switch on this one, already an installed fused circuit.Anyway, I like it. If you don't know how to add more wire or trade the fuse side, then you shouldn't install this though. As is, this could heat up and cause a fire if it were to short out. Not to mention, the whole positive wire is unprotected without a fuse too, if that shorts, and goes to ground, the wire would burn up and cause a fire! It's DANGEROUS that they have an inline fuse on the ground (already the "safe" side). Be smart and change that! Protect it EXACTLY the same way EVERYTHING else on your car is protected (on the positive side!) Don't let your car burn down!

Brightness adequate, durability to be seen....
Purchased to add a 12v battery-pack-powered light to my truck bed. Previous reviews indicated astounding brightness, I would say the brightness (as powered) is satisfactory for my application, but not showstopping (power source may bear on this). I found the wiring to be smaller than I would've expected, and I'm concerned about the durability where it enters the light strip (I reinforced it with heat shrink). So far so god, though. Will update if anything unexpected occurs. One year update: unfortunately my attachment plans did not work out and for the last 2-3 months the light has been dangling under my box rail in the the back. I went to use it today and discovered that the light had twirled around itself so much that it had broken the wire insulation right where it enters the light (where I expected failure and reinforced) and the circuit had shorted, making the light unusable. I'm sure that if it had stayed mounted I'd have gotten several more years of use out of it, I may end up getting another and reinstalling properly if I find I need it by winter or it goes on sale.

Bright under hood light!
Bought it last year and finally got around to installing it this year. After hmm’ing and haw’ing about drilling a hole for the plunger switch I decided to altogether abandon it and opted for a lighted rocker switch instead.. happy with the outcome. The light is simple, bright, and abundantly illuminates the engine compartment far better than any OEM hood light I’ve had. I used a heat gun to warm up the mounting surface before applying the adhesive strip light and boy howdy the strip light isn’t going to come off in my lifetime! Read complaints about the fuse on the ground lead… c’mon man… man up it’s a 13 dollar solution that works great… took 30 seconds to relocate the in-line fuse to the positive side between the battery and the switch… and another 30 seconds to crimp the positive light lead to the load side of the switch. I’m really happy with the solution!

What a great hood light kit for a great price.
This product was such a great deal for something of very good quality. I installed this on my new Ram 1500 because they don’t have hood lights anymore. The one problem you will have to fix is putting the fuse on the hot wire instead of the ground wire where it comes installed. Anybody who has even a tiny bit of wiring experience can fix this very easily. Hook the hot wire directly to the battery and hook the ground wire to the switch that’s bolted directly to the body somewhere for a good ground. The kit is pretty much complete except for a few wiring connectors and some wire loom. It is very bright and lights up under the entire hood space. A little advice on installing the hood switch is to use some clay or playdoh where you want to install your switch and close the hood. Then you will have the exact distance you will need to adjust your switch to. Anyway, I 100% recommend this product and already installed one in my friends truck too.
