whats the driver for m.2 pcle?

I have a asrock z87 extreme 4 motherboard. is there any reason this wouldn't work with it? i can't tell from the description.

Try this two possibilities: (1) Get the latest BIOS update from AsRock site, just to make sure your BIOS has NVMe support ( I do not kown if Amazon permits links, but I'll try to send to you below). Assuming you are talking about the M.2 variant and not the half card variant:. Yes, it should work for ALL M.2 cards. An M.2 slot on your motherboard IS a dedicated PCI-E lane, so a converter like this is primarily just taking m.2 sized connectors and connecting them to PCI-E 2.0 connectors. That's why this card comes without drivers: it doesn't actually DO anything besides resize pins - similar to a microSD to standard SD converter.

Assuming you have a slot on your mobo, will this work with any mobo to allow an m2 ssd to be your boot?

It's not certain. Your motherboard's BIOS must support NVMe boot. Most modern boards, do, and you should be able to check with the manufacturer's support site, or the board's user forums.

No way to make card secure

This card will fit loosely in the slot with no way to fasten it tight. It might come loose if you move your box often.

Easy to install and works great

Attaching and nvme to this card is pretty easy and straightforward, it comes with all the screws and thermal pads you may need and fits several sizes. The heatsink it comes with isn't strictly needed, but if you have a drive that runs hot it is best to go ahead and use it. The biggest advantage of this one versus others is not needing to have the pci cover plate removed from the case. It just pops right into a slot and is sturdy enough to stay on its own. This of course leaves open strange situations where the card could be bent if pressure is put on it parallel to the motherboard, but that would be a very odd occurrence and the weight of and ssd and the heat sink is not enough to create a problem.While using a Samsung 970 nvme with this I was able to get it's full speed in crystaldiskmark tests and had no real world performance issues after using it for weeks.This has been a great buy and seems like it will be great for anyone that needs an extra drive but don't have spare m.2 slots on their motherboard.
