Q: How does the cold smoker work? Does it require electricity or do you light the chippings?

No electric required. Just light the wood dust at the end of the smoker either by a gas torch or a candle tea light which fits in to a slot at one end of the smoker. I find that a gas torch works best, it's much faster to get the wood dust to smoulder. I find that this smoker works best with wood dust rather that small wood chips or pellets. To increase the smoke volume I light both ends of the smoker so that the wood dusts burns towards each other. This is the best and cheapest cold smoker I have used, I smoke my own salmon, chesses and bacon. You can get a gas torch from most £ shops.

Q: We produce copious amount of beech, oak and chestnut sawdust from our logsaw (we have four woodburners). Can this be used with this product?

It depends on the type of saw. You shouldn't use it to smoke food if there is any synthetic oil used to lubricate the blade/chain.

Q: Do (fine) wood chips for Cameron smokers work with thyis product?

with regards to your question, the cold smoke generator will only work with wood "dust" anything larger or rougher will not slow burn. Expect to get about 9 to 10 hours from one fill, I use oak and apple dust myself for most applications. Happy Smoking!
