Beautifully made, with reservations
This is the second one of these that I have purchased. The first came from OWC as part of an SSD upgrade kit for my 2012 Macbook Pro. It was incredibly useful and allowed me to use the old SSD as an external drive.Externally it is beautifully made from a block of solid aluminium in pseudo-Apple style and matches all the genuine Apple kit perfectly. However, I have two reservations. The USB3 cable that comes with it is a solid inflexible thing and makes it very tricky to place the drive flat on a surface as it twists round. However I use a thinner USB cable with it.That brings me on to the second reservation. This may be connected with the problem above but the drive recently stopped working. When I took the cover off it was clear that the USB connector was not properly fixed to the board and had come loose and disconnected from the tracks on the board. I contacted OWC but it is a couple of months out of warranty (12 months) so they said I would have to buy a replacement.Having nothing to lose I tried resoldering the SMD connector which worked for a short while before it all came apart again because the connector was loose from the board. By this time the tracks were not usable.I probably could have bought a new 256GB USB thumb drive a bit cheaper but I needed to access the data on the SSD so I had no choice but to buy a replacement (much cheaper from Amazon UK than from OWC even including the discount they offered)Be careful with the model you buy. It's not very clear but this version only works with SSDs from pre-2013 MacBooksHopefully I will be more lucky with this one. I will certainly be more careful.I would have awarded 5* if the first one hadn't died on me.Anyone who wants my old one is welcome to it if you pay the postage. It may be reparable with the appropriate skills and tools.

Should have read the description properly!
To be fair, my disappointment is entirely my own fault. I purchased this item because I had a spare OWC internal SSD lying around and needed a USB3.0 enclosure to house it. That's what I thought I was getting. It was only when the product arrived that I read the manual's opening statement - "The OWX ENVOY PRO is compatible ONLY with original Apple SSDs. Third party SSDs , including OWX SSDs, are NOT compatible." Great.I was left scratching my head wondering just what purpose this product actually has considering the removal of an iMacs internal SSD is like brain surgery and to purchase the Apple SSD on it's own is incredibly expensive to say the least. I can only imagine a scenario where my iMac is obsolete or has died that I will be in need of removing the internal SSD. At the point, the ENVOY PRO will be quite useful I think. So all is not lost.

I used this to recover data from my Macbook Pro Retina Model A1425 Early 2013. It was very easy to use and I managed to recover all my files. Unfortunately this was the only enclosure that works for this model and it is a bit pricey for a one-time use but the casing is nice and the whole apparatus can then be used as an external hard drive.

works ok, unlike cheap ones, my instructions were not quite right though
solid enough and works, unlike the cheap one i bought which requires an external power supply to run it.The Problem with this one is the instructions. It tells you to simply slide the top off to access the inside but you actually have to undo to screws underneath first! at least the one i was sent already had the screws in place on the bottom!.Also you need a T5 Torx screwdriver to use any of the screws. You also have to unscrew the retaining screw inside before you put your ssd in then pop it back in to secure the ssd. Again on . mie that was the case. (pun intended).the supplied carry bag in nice quality but unfortunately it only fits the ssd case and not the included and vital USB cable too. It would have been a nice tough to be able to have both in one bag for ease of keeping everything together
