I would recommend letting the stain fully dry which can vary in time. Try firmly pressing and dragging a clean white rag against the stained material and if the rag is clean you're dry enough. **Q: Why is this so expensive for a quart?** A: It is not in my opinion besides it covers beautifuly I first hired a crew to strip and stain my floors they were useing this product so I bought a quart and easy to apply and a great result **Q: How soon can you coat over this stain with a water base poly ?** A: I received a different color of stain- however i did purchase a small tin from a local store the same Brand, and I was able to apply the ployurethane after 3 hours. Hope this helps. **Q: Is this for interior use only?** A: This primarily acts as a stain to give wood a color. I've used it on exterior wood doors but with an additional urethane coating to seal the wood.
