Energy MCE32 800W Auto Switch Box w PIR Motion Detector Sensor Security Light

I've bought and installed 4 of these so far. The oldest are 5 years old, and get daily use. All have been utterly reliable and behave exactly as you'd hope indoors. No false triggers and very flexible for timing. Outdoors (just the sensor, the box isn't waterproof) is more difficult, foliage and wind can trigger them even when set to low sensitivity, but that's a usual limitation with IR.

Work as advertised. Would like to have wires not exposed.

A great tiny PIR sensor. I spent hours searching for a small sensor to use in a porch ceiling and couldn’t find one. They were all large and ugly. This is a tiny sensor about 15mm diameter and hardly visible. The box is a doddle to wire up and the dip swiches let you control whether the PIR operates daytime/nighttime, high/low sensitivity, and various on timings. The sensor cable in quite short (about 8cm), but I extended it to 4M using cat-5 multi-core wire. VERY HAPPY with this little gem of a PIR!

Got this setup but no thanks to the manual I'm no expert so it needs to indicate that the red cable is the live(L) switched feed to your load After some head scratching it was obvious

I wanted the lights in my garage to automatically come on when I walked into the garage rather than having to pull a 2-way pull cord walking in and the same pull cord walking out. I bought this PIR expecting that I could just swap over one of the 2-way pull cords for the PIR, but it wasn’t that easy as the PIR needed a Neutral connection and my 2-way cord switch only had twin and earth 3 core wiring, which ended up being an earth, a live and a live switch (neutral with brown sleeve). I spent ages trying to see how to rewire the garage switches to include a neutral connection and then stumbled upon a solution that worked for me. I ended up by not touching the existing 2-way pull cords but instead wired the PIR into a junction box in my garage lighting circuit that contained a live (to connect with the brown wire from the PIR), a neutral (to connect with the blue wire from the PIR) and a switched live (which is connected to the red wire from the PIR). So now when I open the garage side door and wait 1 second before entering the garage, the PIR senor detects me and switches my lights on automatically. I then do what I need to do in the garage and leave the garage without needing to pull any switches. 30 seconds later the lights automatically switch off. Works a treat and I am so very pleased with the result. Please note that I am most definitely not an electrician but very much an amateur DIY’er and if you have any doubts at all then get a qualified electrician to install your PIR.

This compact module worked exactly as I had hoped. It is fairly sophisticated in that you can choose to have the motion sensor switching power at all light levels, or only when ambient light is low, eg at night. I chose to have it only operating at night and it works well. Having a PIR sensor that is separate from the control unit is also good, as it makes it easier to locate unobtrusively.

It takes a bit of DIY obviously to install but a drilled little hole in the outside lamp front perspex cover and a bit of placement of the unit inside the lamp. Eh voila i made the cheap outside light , a motion detecting security light :) works good but its a cheap sensor . too much rain might make it go on . I set it to 30 sec only so it doesn't bother me

Excellent little product that does what it needs to do - and well. I have used it to turn on led lights in kitchen plinth - works as expected. In fact probably better than expected - picks up movement from a fair distance. It’s quite small and discreet - won’t be noticed on the skirting. No complaints, would buy again.

Il mio corridoio è diventato autonomo! Si accende la luce al passaggio senza usare l'interruttore ogni volta. Ho cercato in rete uno schema più semplice per l'installazione, anche perché di elettricità non sono molto ferrato. Se avete dubbi contattate un professionista per l'installazione. Si regola sia il tempo di accensione che la distanza e con il sensore crepuscolare si attiva solo in condizioni di luce scarsa. Qualità prezzo eccezionale e dimensioni ridottissime. Attenzione: l'installazione di questo modello è comoda solo se avete dove poter nascondere il corpo principale, tipo controsoffitti, lasciando solo il piccolo sensore a vista.
