Impressed. Strong odor yes
I rarely leave a review because most things I know what I’m buying and too lazy to do so.I researched various options to paint the inside brick in my fireplace. Note my fireplace has issues and I don’t burn in it …so this was for aesthetics but I also wanted functionality if the issues were resolved. The 1200 material is watery like cheap wall paint but I wanted that as I have many cracks/ porosity challenges. It went on and covered in one coat. I used about 1/2 of the small pint can and used a cheap 2 inch brush. Not a foam brush. It looks great after 1 coat. Like the flat black finish.I might go over a few areas that I missed but they are so minor I would not have to. But honestly I’m super impressed with the single coat coverage. It does have a strong smell so open the window. I knew that from the other reviews but knowing this was a one time thing it was fine. It’s like cleaning the oven. Yup it stinks but how often do you do that job.

Fast, easy and great job
Purchased this 2 months ago and just got around to using it. It seemed more watery, thinner than paint but I guess that's how it's supposed to be. Smell is super strong. Easy to brush on and a quick job. Firebox and the metal firewood grate look great. Crisp black. Love it.

Painted old masonry fireplace.
I have an existing old masonry wood burning fireplace, I remodeled the house, and removed the chimney up through the roof. I left the masonry chimney/smoke shelf in tact. I properly sealed off the top side of the fireplace with fire rated products/cement board. After a thorough cleaning of masonry, I bought 3m fire penetration caulking at the box store, then repaired any failing mortar in joints. After 72 hrs [3M advice] I painted all masonry/joints with this paint. I installed a natural gas line and installed a ventless gas log set. Works/looks great. HOWEVER -- OPEN WINDOWS of your home, turn on exhaust fans if you have them that vent to the outside. This paint has a VERY strong odor. This isn't latex kids. It dries to a flat finish. I used the 'disposable brushes' from the box store. There was some odor on first couple of times I turned on log set. Both the paint/log set fumes, which is normal. This paint also stuck to the flexible gas line to hide its yellow color. I would recommend this paint and buy again if I need to. The one can painted entirely with 1 coat with some left over. This is a 16oz can.[so yes, that is half of a typical quart can, pricey, but....] My firebox is 34" wide x 22.5" high x 22" deep for a size idea. The masonry absorbed the paint, but covered in 1 coat. Don't spill on any area you don't want painted, it's not wiping off masonry.

Works Well! Over-priced, and super fume-y, but I have tips!
I read what a lot of other said about the fumes, and here's the real deal: This product seems low fume when you first start applying it--but that changes abruptly about 20 minutes in, so here's what you need to know: Open all windows and turn on fans first, apply your paint QUICKLY, because once it starts to dry--and the other reviews which mention the quick drying properties are very accurate--it is AWFUL. BUT...if you just open all doors and windows, vent with fans, and go outside for a couple of hours, it is totally fine. It does NOT take days to pass, and I painted the inside of my entire fireplace. My only thought about the folks who claim it took 3 days to pass is that maybe they applied several coats?? To be fair though, I don't light fires in my fireplace (yucky smoke in our home is not attractive or healthy), so I might have noticed the fume-y smell again if the surface heated up?But..it is really expensive for what it is--though there really isn't anything else out there that costs less, so what are you going to do?As for the coverage--if you are trying to even out the color inside your fireplace after years of black ash have stained it, this is the right product. My fireplace looks great! Just plan to paint on nice weather day where you do not mind being outside and leaving your doors and windows open. Get a BIG fan ready too, because this really sped up the de-fuming process.

Goes on well, looks good
Painted the inside of the fireplace with this a couple of months ago. Went on well, didn't peel, and looks good. Strong fumes took a few hours to dissipate, so do it on a day when you can open your windows for a few hours.

Great Product
Our fireplace had fire marks, so we opted to paint the inside to make the inside of the fireplace look cleaner. The paint was easy to apply, and one can covered the inside of our entire fireplace (small).Looks great!

Best Paint Like Original
Painted Quadrafire wood stove after 19 years. Rutland brush on paint is about the best paint I’ve ever used. Preparation is key, removing rust and wiping down with ONLY laquer thinner as recommended on the label. Color, texture and coverage using 16 oz can was excellent. Looks original and brand new. Odor was high but went away same day after lighting stove. Gorgeous finish on the stove AND on the single wall stove pipe. Highly recommend.

Does not stick
Not sure what’s happening but this paint did not work.Painting a metal surface. Cleaned well with alcohol , let dry. Painted this pretty light coat. Waited two hours. Still was not dry. Ended up waiting 24 hours. Paint was dry to the touch. But when I started to put a second coat the first coat litterly brushes off it will not go on as a solid coat. Waste of money. Fumes are really strong ( to be expected though )
