Like all the recent crop of Haynes manuals covering animal husbandry and small holding this is an excellent introduction to the subject. There is enough information to make informed decisions about keeping sheep without scaring yourself and I think enough to get you through the first few months of owning sheep. It is refreshingly clear about not being a complete guide and highlights where you would need to do further reading which avoids the book becoming bogged down in detail before you need it. A very good read and written in an easy to read flowing style.

Very pleased
This is an excellent book - very impressed. It answers many questions I had and includes a good list, with photos, of sheep breeds - even including the Dorper which many books do not mention. Very informative for the beginner but just as useful for those who have kept sheep for a few years. Up to date information on tagging and movement plus a comprehensive section on showing for those new to it. Also impressed with the raising for meat section and the shearing and sheep dog introduction.

a fountain of knowledge
I love this book. I was very involved with sheep farming as a child and since lost touch with it. As I am intending to soon have some of my own it has all the info I was wanting as a refresher. A good read.

First time sheep owner
I got this book because I have read the Hayes manual for beekeeping and found it great for beginners as a first time sheep owner this was very helpful it covers a lot of what you need to know when starting out. It is not dumbed down nor are difficult issues glossed over I would recommend it to anyone who is getting into sheep.All you need now is experience!

Fantastic Book for Smallholders!
I absolutely love this book! It is perfect for beginners or people with small flocks. The text is clear and concise, yet very informative, and is backed up with great photographs and diagrams. I would highly recommend it, it is my ‘go to’ book!

Geared toward UK sheep
Great book buy it's better suited for people raising sheep in the UK. This book talks about different UK regulations and whatnot for sheep, nothing about USA sheepies.

Book is chock full of info. The 1 complaint is the shipping of this order. Become delayed and took a month to get here. Would of cancelled the order because of the delay, but I REALLY needed this book.
