Great Smell (dependent on skin type) excellent lather without a soapy mess.
UPDATE: 15 Sept 2019: Shaving for 4.5 months 6 days a week and the stick is still going strong! I live in a hard water area so this stick could feasibly last even longer in soft water areas.PROS:1) Plastic holder keeps your soap stick solid and hands clean2) On CERTAIN skin types smell is attractive3) Easy to travel with since container has a screw top seal4) Produces a rich creamy lather enough for 3 or 4 multidirectional shaves.CONS:1) Not as cheap as Arko, but not exactly expensive2) Fragrance may not suit all skin typesThis is a great shave stick. I have been using Arko Shave Soap for a number of years and have loved it. However, the problem with Arko is it doesn’t come in a plastic container. Thus towards the end you end up lathering with a combination of soap and foil and the stick turns into a soggy, soapy mess. Since I couldn’t find a container to put the Arko in, and I couldn’t be bothered making one out of plastic pipe, I looked around for alternatives. My first thought was to buy Muehle Sandalwood Shave Stick, but as I don’t like spending on myself, I didn’t want to pay £10. Gilette and Wilkinson Sword (and others) do shave sticks in containers for around £5, but I consider them commonplace and mundane. Thus, seeing the Tabac, and remembering the adoring female adverts from the 1970s, I decided to become a Tabac man.The stick produces a rich creamy lather (if you soak your brush first) which is enough for lathering your face 3 to 4 times. I always wet my face, then apply a drop of baby oil to my face, then rub the shave stick on my beard growth, and finally lather on my face. My shave consists of doing what you’re not meant to do, i.e. go against the grain (direction of beard growth) and going in the correct direction. I do this 4 times, since my wife (and I) like a soft, smooth finish. My last point is down to people complaining about the scent. All perfumes, aftershaves depend on the skin type that they are applied to. In other words, dry skin, oily skin, normal skin will all produce a different result. Then there’s personal preference. Tabac has a woody, spicy scent which suits my skin which I believe to be normal skin. Additionally, scent outcome depends on things like level of sweating and hygiene and also body water content. If it’s crucial how you smell, and you don’t know how Tabac will smell on you, at just over £5, you can afford to make a mistake. Don’t write things off calling them “cheap”. I use a very expensive aftershave (my one self indulgence) which is only sold in exclusive shops. Yet before the Tabac, I was willing to buy a 2 Arko soap sticks for £2. Inverted snobbery is stupid, why pay more than you have to?I can’t determine how long this will last. Arko lasts 2-3 months of shaving a minimum of 5 days a week. Once I know how long, I’ll update, however, until then, at just over a Fiver, you can’t go wrong!

Lathers-up nicely
I was surprised by this product, and not in a bad way! It is the first shaving stick I have bought, and I first used it when travelling recently. I was very surprised by the quality of the lather: you wash your face, smear this stuff on the bristles, stir your face up with a shaving brush and - hey presto! - one lathered face. I was half expecting the sort of foam that disappears almost as fast as a politician's promises. Instead, it was a rich, creamy, foam that did the job nicely. My bristles are light-to-medium, so I am not sure how you would fare if you have a strong beard; but if you want something that's not an aerosol and compact enough to pack away neatly in a sponge bag, I'd say give it a go. As per the photo, the stick is protected by an outer plastic sheath - a bit like a giant lipstick container. Leaves the face feeling soft, and has a low-key perfume.

Worthwhile purchase
Bought this for my husband as seems impossible to get this sort of shaving soap in any local shops/chemists and he is very much a creature of habit! Might seem bit expensive but his lasted about 10 months so worth the extra to me

Nicest smelling shaving soap
This has a really nice smell. Being on a stick makes it much easier to use than soap in a bowl, and this refill can be used straight out the box - you don't need to put it in anything.
