Makita 2012NB/2 Thicknesser, 220 V, 1650 W, 304 mm Blue Large

Works a dream - a good sturdy piece of kit although I haven't had it long and cannot comment on it long term. It is simple to use. I have tried it on oak, teak and spruce thus far and it coped with all of them really well providing an excellent finish. The one flaw is that you have to attach the dust extraction cover; it is supplied but it is not integral. Without it there are wood shavings everywhere; the thicknesser produces a lot! While, if you have space you might leave it attached, if, like me, you have limited space and restricted storage, the thicknesser folds nicely into a cuboid without the dust extraction cover and, thus, as such, I remove it every time. However, it is reasonably simple to attach and remove.

Straight out of the box, perfect shaving of quite large blocks. I have a big range of makita tools, and this is a valuable edition to my set. Works GREAT, no problems at.

Have never owned a thicknesser before so this is a real luxury item for me. It is great to be able to pass various pieces through the planer and end up with them all the same thickness so easily. The quality of the planed surface is great but don't expect it to make twisted wood flat and straight just by passing it through, you need a few other tricks to do that, which you will find on YouTube. Really solid and quite heavy, which I guess it needs to be in order to prevent the body distorting and compromising the action. Easy to adjust with the handle on top, but ease it round gently when you are getting to your required size as a quarter turn is still 0.5mm/.020". I have no regrets about choosing Makita and would buy it again if I needed to.

I tested this and was amazed at the finish, no sanding required. Excellent service from Howe Tools, delivered the next day and the best price on-line.

Ive been wanting to get a thickness planer for a while but got put off when I went to local hardwood dealer and he planed a couple of boards of cherry for me. I was like are they all that loud?! I did a load of research and although i liked the dewalt planer the Makita is signicately more quiter. I only make things for a hobby but this bit of kit has seriusly transformed how I work. Before I used to square and plane everything by hand using a plane. First time I used it was on a speaker build and couldnt believe how it just planed through this beech and walnut.. i just wish I brought it sooner. Highly recommend

Usual Makita quality and value for money with a three year warranty. It happily planed down to 3mm and produces a very even and accurate finish on soft and hardwoods. Update. Has now been in regular use (professional) for over three years. Can't fault it. Chris Roberts.

Has already gone wrong! What has happened to Makita? Returned for repair so we'll see what happens next.

Looks like it's a great bit of kit BUT the nut was broken in the one of the trays which holds the wood as it goes through, I can't be bothered to send it back (too much hassle) so I'm going to try and drill it out and put new nut in..

Love this machine, it is my favorite item to work with in the wood shop. very easy to use and cuts very smooth surfaces. Able to use it on a variety of wood types and shapes

Makita doesn't need and introduction. If you need a planer then go for it.
