Collecting these ”semi-precious” and ”ornamental” stones and ores is a hobby which appeals to some; by its very nature it is difficult to “rate” in the classical sense since one man’s meat might be another’s poison and, to my mind, serious collectors go for specific features such as rarity, beauty, mineralogical, geological and other features. What follows is my personal view, and is not meant to dismiss any stone as being unworthy of collecting: my interest is part aesthetic and part mineralogical; I like titanium quartz, but am so-so with ordinary quartz and so forth.The object here is striking in its uniform and shiny blackness.

very small but beautiful stone

This is not tumbled and polished so is not as advertised. The stone is rough with many cracks. Looks more like charcoal than obsidian.
