Review: Works very well - Had a load of Ralph Lauren Polo's and Ts in nay that look great but had a fair bit of sun fading and general washing related fade, so though id give this stuff ago as it seems daft to buy more new ones when these where just faded but in good condition. Consulted with Gemini on the procedure and it was very helpful, I had 1.6kg of clothes dry weight that amounted to 4 sachets normally 1 sachet does 250g or 500g lighter shade, so as I was re-dying already navy I could use a bit less. Need to order salt I used 1kg and 4 sachets and used a plasters mixing tub (giant bucket) followed the instructions and they have come out like new again no fades just a nice navy color. The labels and logos stay the same colour they should be as they are polyester. The only hard part was the rinsing out afterwards as you need to rinse until clear so I used the shower but as I did 7 items it was hard work but if only doing a few its not as bad. You can use the washing machine version but I dont like the idea of that as I just know when washing something white there will be some dye lurking somewhere later on! You then wash them afterwards in the washing machine as normal and then hang out to dry. They do look alot darker when they are wet almost black but dont worry they look fine once dry. Some of the tshirts are different colour combos but I think that is down the material type and age as some of the older RL polos were much thicker cotton in comparison to some of the newer ones. I did a pima cotton tank top at the same time and a zip up hoodie and they turns out like new as well but perhaps not quite enough dye for the hoodie to go as dark blue as the rest did but it look like its much newer and consistent colour all the way an not faded like before Defo worth using and Id do this again maybe on the black ones, I wouldn't try it on grey's well maybe but the primary colour items it works well.
Review: Worked much better than I expected! - I died a silk dress and a linen+ramie mix trousers. They were both pinkish to start with and this dye turned the dress into a gorgeous vibrant olive green. Not too dark, maybe because on the packet it said it is not meant for silk, so perhaps that's why it didn't turn it too dark, but I actually love it. The trousers that were a strange dark rosy beige to start with, turned brown with this, which makes sense in terms of color mixing. Either way, I love it! It was really easy to use too, I used a small plastic tub, filled it with hot tap water and added some boiling water to make it really hot. I then had some dishwasher salt, that I added for the salt component, and then the dye. I had previously washed both items quickly just by hand with a dash of detergent to make sure I am not leaving any stains and that it would take evenly to the fabric. Gave them a little rinse, then I put both in, and swished them around so they would get evenly coated, and then basically kept swishing them every few minutes. Once it was cooled down enough to go in with gloves, I made sure I squeezed all the air pockets out. Honestly, it turned out better than I expected, no blotches, a nice even color, even if not the exact color I thought they would be, but actually even better.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will it dye over grey? I need to update my little girls school uniform**
A: As a general rule you need to dye to a darker shade so navy should dye a light grey. Natural fibres such as cotton and wool are best.

**Q: Can you dye netting I.e curtains?.**
A: I wouldn't recommend it as most fabric dyes are only to be used with cotton items for the best results and from previous experience not recommended for polyester.

**Q: Has anyone used this dye on canvas or hessian fabric? I was wondering if it would take well on those.**
A: I HAVE USED DYLON DYES FOR YEARS AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DELIGHTED . RECENTLY I TRIED TO DYE SOME CANVAS CHAIR COVERS -THIS WAS MY FIRST DISASTER ---- THEY CAME OUT PATCHY AND SPOTTY .
UPON FURTHER RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THAT CANVAS MATERIAL IS USUALLY 'TREATED' IN SOME WAY TO MAKE IT DURABLE --- THE 'COATING' USED TO TREAT THE MATERIAL DOES NOT TAKE DYES . THE CHAIR COVERS NOW LOOK A FORM OF 'SHABBY CHIC' .

**Q: Can this dye remove bleach damage on navy wool cardigans**
A: To answer the issue of heating wool, it’s sudden changes in temperature and moving the wool around that causes felting, but don’t machine wash/dye if it’s not superwash wool, machine washable. If it’s hand wash ordinary wool, heat is ok provided it heats up gradually and is also rinsed in water the same temperature, and then cooled by just letting it sit in the final rinse till room temperature. Be gentle with it. If you watch videos on how to dye yarn or fibre you’ll see hot water being used, but gentle transitions.

Bleach is tricky and stays in the fibre. You can neutralise it if you can get some sodium thiosulphate. Goodness knows where from! But I remember that from school chemistry lessons!
I doubt they put dye in the bleach, just that the bleach may cause the original colour, or the new one to “break”, or if the dye has different colours mixed together, some may be more affected by the bleach than others.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Convenient Navy Blue Fabric Dye for Clothes and Home Textiles
*by A***A on 12 October 2026*

DYLON Hand Dye in Navy Blue is a 50g fabric dye sachet designed for refreshing the colour of suitable clothing and soft furnishings. It offers a way to update faded textiles or change the appearance of fabric items without replacing them. Key Features Navy Blue Colour: A classic, versatile shade suitable for a range of clothing and textile projects. 50g Sachet: A convenient pack size for smaller dyeing jobs, subject to the fabric weight and coverage instructions. Hand Dye Formula: Designed for hand dyeing rather than relying on a washing machine dyeing process. Clothes and Soft Furnishings: Suitable for compatible fabrics when used according to the product instructions. Refreshes Fabric Appearance: Can help revive the look of faded items or change their colour. DIY Fabric Care: An option for people who enjoy updating garments and household textiles at home. Things to Consider Check the garment's care label and the dye manufacturer's fabric compatibility guidance before use. Results depend on the original fabric colour, fibre composition, fabric weight and preparation. Natural fibres such as cotton generally take dye differently from polyester and other synthetic materials, so the final shade may vary. Follow the instructions for water temperature, salt requirements, dye quantity and rinsing. Protect surrounding surfaces, wear suitable gloves and use a container that will not be damaged or stained by the dye. Do not assume the result will match the shade shown on the packet exactly. Overall DYLON Navy Blue Hand Dye offers a practical option for people wanting to refresh or recolour suitable fabrics at home. The sachet format is convenient, and navy blue is a versatile colour for clothing and selected soft furnishings. The main factors to consider are fabric compatibility, coverage, ease of use and the evenness of the finished colour. Checking the instructions carefully before starting should help you get the best possible result.
