Review after 3 months of daily use.
I have waited for over 3 months to write this review, as I wanted to provide a review based on the experience of using the machine over time, rather than just out of the box. I have to say that this machine is a joy to use! the design is smart, it's made of a tough plastic, but if you want stronger, then pay a stronger price. The functions are really good, you can make 2 coffees at once and the milf frother works very well. It is a fairly small machine, quite compact, and therefore does not take up too much space in our small kitchen, one of the downfalls of the size is that you need to fill up the water tank fairly often, like every 4/5 coffees (that includes frothing milk, which seems to be where most of the water is used) however when you consider the fact you only have to slide a tray out, run it under a tap for 6 /7 seconds and then slide back in, it's really not much of a concern. I've tried several different types of coffee beans, and all of them come out tasting well. Its worth noting that you cannot use beans that are coated in flavoring like caramel etc, as they will clog up the grinder and invalidate your warranty. The machine is easy to clean. It will flash when its due a clean, you just add the cleaning solution, and push a few buttons, leave a carton underneath to collect all the water, and half an hour later its done. It seems to need cleaned once a month, and that's averaging about 4 coffees a day. Although not a huge issue, the costs can add up, by the time you consider you need to buy a cleaning solution (approx 10gbp on Amazon, which lasts 4 cleaning cycles) and water filters (approx 9gbp on Amazon, needing replaced every 3/4 months depending on your water hardness) although you don't pay all that money for a coffee machine to neglect to clean it. I have calculated the average cost of descaling cleaning solution and water filters to be approx 40-50gbp per year, which depends on how much you use the machine. All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend this machine. It delivers coffee shop standard coffee at home for a fraction of the price. Its easy to use, its easy to clean, its easy to refill with water and beans. Obviously the more you pay for a coffee machine the better quality and performance you are going to get, however if you don't have 500-1000 pound to spend on a machine, and you would like something that will do a good job, this is a sound investment, which you can always consider upgrading after a few years of use.

Superb first-timer's coffee machine
I bought this as my first foray into bean-to-cup coffee and I've got to say I'm extremely happy. The unit isn't too big, fits nicely in the corner of my kitchen is well-made and very simple to set up. It didn't take long before I was brewing some superb espressos and longs. Pros: - Was super-easy to get going as a beginner. - Fits all sorts of cup sizes, I've large mugs to small espresso glasses and all work great. - Milk frother very easy to use to get their cappuccino foam or latte milk. Quick to heat the steam. - Programmable cup sizes. I wanted my "longs" to be considerably longer, so just programmed it in for my mugs! - Easy to maintain. I've not had to descale or clean the infuser yet, but it's been straightforward so far. Cons: - Milk frother a little short. If you want to froth milk for only one, expect to use a small jug as the frother is quite stubby. - Grinder certainly not silent! It's not a problem, I just wonder how they thought they could market it like that... - Scratches easily. The metal grid over the drip tray is badly scratched after 10 days of use. - She won't win a beauty content. As a first-time coffee machine, this is awesome. Nothing complicated, makes great coffee with minimal fuss...and a great price.

A TREAT TO USE. STILL!
An update, 2 years on. We have made coffee with this machine most days since we bought it. Every few months it prompts you to perform a service, which is quite easy, providing you gave the right decalc liquid. It has not broken down nor given us any other problems. Just great coffee! In the end, we just wanted a machine that made fresh espresso with beans, and which could froth milk. It does both, leaving us to make coffee just how we want. I did consider buying one of the fancier models with more automatic functions - capuccino etc - but very happy we didn't. Absolutely delighted that we bought this machine. Incidentally, and this is just our personal preference, we have settled on espresso beans from Monmouth Coffee. Shops in London + mail order. Every morning starts with their beans in this machine, and every morning they bring a smile to my face! We bought this a week ago and it was delivered very promptly. We plumped for this model as we wanted to be able to manually froth milk as well as making espresso from beans. Which? magazine rates this as one of their Best Buy machines, and having read up, we took the plunge. It's very easy to set up and get running. Read the instruction manual, whatever you do, as it needs just a little preparation. There's a water hardness test that you do - very simple - before installing the softener cartridge that comes in the box. Then you add beans, fill the water tank and get acquainted with the easy-to-use buttons. After 3 or 4 espresso shots I found the right strength for me. Changing the coarseness of grind or strength is a doddle. The last trick was to hone our milk frothing technique. Quite straightforward really: just get a jug that is at least 3 times bigger than the amount of milk you have in it, press the steam button and, when it's warmed up, turn the knob anticlockwise. The trick I quickly discovered was to fully immerse the spout of the steam nozzle into the milk. Then you just gently move the jug up and down until you have the right amount of frothed milk - perhaps 15-20 seconds for one or two macchiatos - and, hey presto, you're done. Each time you turn the machine on and off it performs a self-clean. A few whirrs and clicks later, it's ready. The drip tray at the front easily slides out with the waste coffee grinds container sat in it. So what does the coffee taste like? Well, we've started with Lavazza Qualita Rossa and the taste is nicely balanced - a nice crema and flavour, with just a touch of bitterness at the end. The results we've had so far are very close to professionally-made coffee, and the straight espresso really is top-notch. This machine also gives you the option of using ground coffee as well, so your choices are very wide. Absolutely impressed with our first use of this machine.

Might be a good machine. But
Might be a good machine. But, it comes with a wired-in 2 round pin plug. So, unable to assess the machine or make coffee at present. Extremely frustrating.

I drink coffee often and I got really tired of boring drip coffee and wanted to get an automatic espresso machine that is able to give really good long espresso coffee with crema. I wanted something that was sturdy, reliable, and was easy to clean and maintain. This machine is all that and since DeLonghi is an established brand in the UAE it was an obvious choice. The PROS - Exceptional coffee with perfect crema (same goes with making milk drinks with the steam wand) - Affordable compared to other machines with similar functionality - Compact: takes up less space than the drip coffee maker + coffee bean grinder I had before - Simple to use and maintain: Make sure to take the time to read the manual before turning it on or watch the How-To videos on DeLonghi's channel on YouTube - Heats up fast for both coffee and steam functions - 13 adjustable grind sizes with burr grinder (Only change the grind size while the mill is working) - Simple indications for maintenance (more water, empty grounds container, change water filter, descaling) - Steam wand: not the most powerful steam but enough to froth and heat the milk to make great latte art The CONS - Cleaning of steam wand can be a pain: you have to disassemble the wand and hand-wash the removable pieces after every use to prevent any clogging or milk residue on the parts. - When it does the self clean cycle when you turn on the machine and when you turn it off it doesn't use much water but even with the nozzles at the lowest position it splashes all over the counter unless you have a tall cup to collect the water. With all of that said, the machine has been worth the price. The coffee is fantastic provided you buy good, freshly roasted beans

Easy to use and clean, makes great coffee. Milk Frother is very easy to use. I have had this a while now, so increasing the ratings from 4 to 5. I alternate between the Aldi Medium and Dark Roasts and this machine just churns our consistent coffee, and I save a bomb and less hassle \ mess than the capsules. Water Tank is a little on the small side, but encourages fresh water. (I use filtered so don't use the Delonghi Carbon Filter). Tip: Leave the grind where it is for a (nice crema). I replaced a true fully automatic unit, and prefer this as I can avoid that nasty milk aroma by not over frothing. Just stuck the jug under until the mark and keep steady until it the base is too hot to touch. Really simple.... and less cleaning. *** Update: Okay after owning for considerable time, I have now taken this to the next level for supurb coffee. *** Set the grind ~3 or 4 Turn the coffee dial to max (right) The default cup size has too much water, adjust it to be around ~20-25mls. (press the cup and hold until it flashes), when the desired amount ~25mls press the cup size again to lock it in. The factory setting is about 40ml which is too weak and a little bitter. Set the double shot to ~50ml You will have strong excellent coffee, time and time again!! Note: after adjusting the gring, takes a few cups to settle down. Only adjust the grid gradually while it is grinding.
