Please note that the fourth edition of this book is now available. Consequently, this older edition is no longer on sale. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Business cuts through the technical jargon that is often associated with these subjects. It delivers a simple and concise introduction for managers and business people. The focus is very much on practical application and how to work with technical specialists (data scientists) to maximize the benefits of these technologies. Steven Finlay is a data scientist with more than 20 years' experience of developing practical machine learning-based solutions. He holds a PhD in management science and is an honorary research fellow at Lancaster University in the UK. He is currently Head of Analytics for Computershare Loan Services (CLS) in the UK. Dr Finlay has published a number of practically focused books about machine learning, artificial intelligence and financial services. Review: Excellent book for a senior management team - Excellent book for a senior management team. I’m CEO at my company and I believe in the benefits of AI and I wanted to introduce AI to the organisation but I was conscious of the fears people have in relation to that. As such I wanted but in from top down management and I bought the whole team this book and gave them two weeks homework to come back with their own thoughts on how AI could benefit their area and the company as a whole. In doing so they owned the ideas and became champions of AI. I selected this book because it is a to hour read and it’s pitched at just the right level of technical detail to give a good appreciation but also to be digestible by non technical members of the team. Great book. Review: Brilliant - This book truly is a masterpiece. The author does a great job of explaining AI in a way that anyone can understand it. Not only that, but he shows how it can be used in a real way. If you want to get a handle on scorecards, decision trees and neural networks then this is a great start. The book can be easily read within a couple of hours and you will finish it knowing a lot more than when you began. I have read quite a few books lately on AI and, although they are all good, this is the one I'd recommend to start with. Very practical and excellent value for money.

An excellent introduction to a very complex subject that can be read by anybody.
A very pragmatic and real world approach. The author really takes the time to highlight business applications for a subject that is going to revolutionise the way we make decisions in all aspects of our life. Don’t get left behind, read it!

I felt as if I learned a lot.
The book explains all the key concepts clearly and in plain English. The author tells when to use and not use the different machine learning techniques.

Grate read for anybody who is new in AI and machine learning and wants to understand the basics
This book is an excellent read for anybody who is new in AI and machine learning and wants to understand the basics. The book is obviously written by a practitioner and experienced consultant who give good advice for implementing AI and machine learning and highlights the pitfalls of implementation for real projects. The book concludes with a 10 point checklist what you need to consider for a successful AI project. I would say this is a short book and a good place to start if you are in the consulting business or are interested in implementing an AI project as a business analyst or working for a company evaluating AI for strategic business needs.

Best book to start on AI journey
Found this as one of the best book that gives quick and to the point views on AI & ML subject. It stands out from different books as the writing style appeals and explain the subject with pros/cons in very simple and easy form. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to kick start to understand AL & ML concepts.

Good book
I found this book very interesting and nice to read. I would probably not recommend this book to those who are already quite good on the subject but it is a good start.

A very practical tutorial - highly recommended
The author sets a goal of being able to read the book in 112 minutes. It took me a little longer, but not too much. So, the book is a quick read. What do you get? First, don't let "artificial intelligence and machine learning" intimidate you. He walks the reader through score cards, decision trees (a little light on this), neural networks and deep learning with a light, but instructive, touch. I felt that I had a basic grasp of how each of these predictive models worked. No math and the essence of these models is math, but this is for an overview, not for a data scientist. So, who ought to read this? The book title includes the words "For Business." I think that is the author's audience. If you're in business, but not a data scientist, and probably not a math or statistics whiz, but you're people who are whizzes in math and stats want to implement artificial intelligence systems (and every time I check out at the grocery store and am given coupons, I encounter these sorts of systems). then I recommend this book for you. Without a large investment of time, you'll have some grasp of the strengths and weaknesses of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The intimidation factor will be removed, or at least greatly diminished. The author offers some valuable tips. As between making sure that you've got the best data that you can get or having the best algorithm that you can get, the author values data improvement over algorithm advancement, if you're operating on a limited budget. How long might it take to get some IT projects functioning? Dr. Finlay offers guidance. If you're in business and you or your employees are thinking of implementing these types of software systems, I strongly recommend that you spend the two hours with this book. It will de-mystify the area, possibly improve your decision, and maybe save you some money.
