Very smooth cut - worth the money
Bought this recently to replace my Babyliss clipper that was starting to snag a bit and wasn't holding its charge - barely managing to get through even one hair cut. My girlfriend took it to my head today and I'm really surprised by how smooth it was - it doesn't pull and no matter how thick the hair was it seemed to glide through it easily. She also said it's very light but much easier to handle than the Babyliss so a thumbs up from her :) The motorised combs are probably a bit of a gimmick and for me the chances are I won't really need to use many of the settings as I just tend to go for a short back and sides - but having the options there certainly do no harm, and the displays do make the device look pretty snazzy :) Having come from a traditional hair clipper with standard barber grade combs I found what the lengths were for each barber comb (I use 2 and 3) and then added the settings to the memory (the clipper comes with 3 combs and allows 3 settings to be stored for each comb, a great time saver). As I wasn't sure how the the traditional barber grades would translate into mm I used slightly longer settings initially and then gradually reduced the lengths until I got it just right - I then saved these to memory ready for the next time. On the whole this is a really good clipper but being able to set your length settings by .1 of a mm increments thus giving 400 settings is probably a bit overkill and the motorised comb are a but gimmicky but still, they do a great job and cut through even thick hair like a knife through butter. Really great value for money and also looks really nice, with a good weight and the maintenance free titanium blades should ensure they stay sharp for many years. An excellent product!

Upgraded from 5000 to 9000... Worth it?
I've been using a 5000 series for a couple of years, over all the 5000 is a great trimmer but I found myself accidentally changing lengths as I change grip during cuts which wasn't ideal. Anyway, decided to re-do my bathroom, out with the old in with new... and I splashed out on the 9000 series. Mechanically, seems much the same as the 5000 which was slightly disappointing at first, not sure what I was expecting at the 5000 cut perfectly well - but once charged, soon I came to really enjoy the digital interface on the 9000, just knowing the battery level was nice compared to times past where the the light just starts flashing red mid-cut. The Memory setting is pretty crucial, I found myself able to tap the memory setting and do the sides / top & even went over my beard just fine. Note: To set memory (when turned off) select the desired length, hold the M until the 1 flashes on the right hand side, then release & hold M again for about 5 seconds and the screen with say "SET" when stored... just tap the M to switch to 1>2>3, and hold the button again to store it. And discovering the cutter Locks the length when you power it on was great, no longer will I accidentally shift up/down lengths by mistake. "Auto-Turbo" concerned me slightly, as generally I've found with all my philips cutters I turn it on and hit the turbo button - that's just how it is! but the automatic really doesn't need much/any noticeable resistance before the Turbo function kicks in and it leaves it running for a few seconds, much to my surprise it was pretty seamless. Overall - The cut is great, ergonomically it worked just fine never felt uncomfortable, love that it locks the length, memory settings are great for bouncing between lengths & no longer will I think to myself do I usually do this a 8 or a 10.. it's simply what I stored. So, I'm glad I went 9000 series and short of a huge price jump - it's just what I'll buy in future.

Needs practice to get the angle right
Had a Phillips cutter with a 'swivel' head that was great when doing my usual 7 mm cut, but battery gave up the ghost after a few years and it became unusable as the power feeds the battery that then runs the motor. Unfortunately this had been discontinued and not replaced which is a real shame for me as a DIYer and there is nothing similar. I really didn't need all the cutting lengths with this 9000 pro but I like that it locks in. The lack of a swivel head means that to cut my own hair needs practice to hold the cutter at the correct angle particularly the back of my head. I'm guessing this is no different to any others but it took a few goes to get the knack to avoid having an un-intended mohican on the back of my head! I'm now happy with it. The inability to change out the battery ultimately means this becomes disposable, as the battery needs to be serviceable even when plugged in. Battery power, in my opinion, is essential in the UK due to the regs banning sockets in bathrooms. In this age of recycling it is not clever/green, but no different from others and cynically keeps the manufacturers in business. Oh, as some of the other reviews mention, with this being one of the more expensive in the range, the lack of a case/bag to pack it away is particularly 'tight' of Phillips given some of the other less expensive versions have something. So in summary, it's a compromise for me which I have got comfortable with after some trial and error. I'm sure the battery will eventually go and I'll have to chuck it away. Hope that's not too soon. Consider whether you need the bells and whistles and could do with something to put it in and save a few ££££ on the way.

Great quaity, highly recommended
This is my second cliiper, so much easier than having to keep changing the grades like you have to on others

DO NOT PURCHASE - unusable for short cuts
Short story: DO NOT BUY these if you cut your hair short, they are utterly useless. Long story: The size, shape and design of the attachments makes this product COMPLETELY USELESS for clipping hair short and the size of the base plate means attachments from other clippers cannot be used. I have had various clippers over the years including most recently a Phillips HC5100 which were great for 5 years before packing in. I wanted to upgrade to a cordless set and thought I'd pay more for a really decent pair. I read several reviews where these were rated very highly if not best. But, the shortest attachment has almost an inch of comb infront of the blade so it is IMPOSSIBLE to get around ears or edges and, unfathomably, there is a gap in the combs at the cutting blade that causes massively uneven cutting - it cuts: - significantly shorter than the the clipper length over convex areas - where the outward shape of the head goes into the gap so closwer to the blade, and - significantly longer in concave areas (where you can't get the actual blade area down due to the inch of comb in front and behind). These are the most expensive and by a long margin the WORST clippers I have ever purchased. I can't understand how Philips made, let alone continue to sell these, and how they have any positive reviews.

Fantstic bit of kit.
Was a bit dubious about blowing 70 bar for this bit of kit, after having the same short, hairstyle for years, using the standard rechargeable clippers (less than £30) has always done me. but after the battery died on my last clippers I decided to go with these ones and i'm glad I did. The battery seems to last and last. I easily get 5 or more head shave probably nearer 8 before I need to charge again, and i have a full head of hair. it cuts effortlessly and doesn't pull like my last one used to sometimes. A great bonus I didn't know about when I purchased, was you don't need to oil the blades on these at all. had this now about a year now and still feels as sharp and as effortless as day one. Very happy with this. If i could put more stars I would. looks lovely too and feels more like a gadget than a head shaver, it's fun to use which is another plus.

Overspecced and ?overpriced but happy with it so far.
I agree that it is a bit over teched and overpriced but I liked both the titanium blades, the max length of cut (42mm, many clippers stop around 23mm) and the speed of cut and recharge so was willing to put up with unnecessary 0.1mm length adjustments and touch screen etc. As people have, I now see, already commented it does not come with a charging stand or case but I complained to Amazon and they gave me a partial rebate and have promised to update/correct this page so don't forget to let Amazon know when there is a problem with a listing and you, Amazon and everyone else will benefit. UPDATE: Now had it for 3 years and certainly feel the previous Philips one we had was better. This one is not as easy to use and the cutter often blocks. More annoyingly that that the combs are flimsy and 1 quickly broke one 'leg' and now neither of the combs has legs. And cannot even use without the combs as the cutter, despite cleaning out, does not work and just stops; something to do with wear in the head I think. So not at all robust and I will not be recommending these or buying another one.

Great quality
My last Philips hair trimmer lasted for over 10 years so it made sense to buy another one. The only thing I didn't notice was that the electrical plug was for the UK, not Australia.
