A great second choice
Was trying to find a similar product to sweet Georgia brown red tin and this is about as close as I’ve found. It’s not SGB but it works

Smells amazing
I recently tried Lockhart's Men's Styling Gel, and I wanted to share my honest thoughts with you. found Lockhart's Men's Styling Gel to be a decent product. On the positive side, the gel does provide a decent hold for styling. It helps tame my hair and keep it in place throughout the day, which is definitely a plus. The product also has a pleasant scent that lingers subtly. But isn’t overwhelming. However, I found that the gel can feel quite heavy and sticky on the hair. It tends to weigh down my hair and leaves a slightly greasy residue, which is not the most desirable effect. Overall this is a quality styling gel that smells great and does the job!

Unfortunately disappointing. If you do not want greasy hair, stay away.
I do not know why anyone would want greasy hair, but that is what you will get with this product -- very greasy hair. The product is nearly impossible to get out of your hair, and it stays on your hands. If you have a habit of running your fingers through your hair (and I do), your hands will be greasy all day. The product caused my forehead to breakout with small zits, my pillow was greasy, my computer keyboard got greasy, my iPhone got greasy -- you get the picture. The product is difficult to get out of the can, and very difficult, if not impossible to get "spreadable" so that you can get an even coat throughout your hair. Even after working it in my hands and getting it warm (even hot), it went mainly wherever my hands touched first. It then took several minutes of working the product through my hair with a comb in order to get it to spread. It is not "medium" hold. Once you have applied enough product to cover your all of your hair, it is definitely strong hold. I do not leaving bad reviews, but I also do not like purchasing products after reading the reviews and then being surprised and disappointed. I was both surprised and disappointed with this product. The prior reviews did not explain this product properly. The one thing I did like about the product is the smell -- it smells pleasant, which is surprising. With the way the product works and with the residue it leaves that you will never get out of your hair, it seems like it should smell more like axel grease.

Great workability, hold, and texture; needs some variation on the scents.
In response to other negative reviews, I will offer my two cents about wax/oil based hair products. I have been using Lockhart's (and other similar pomades) for almost ten years, so take my opinion for what you think it is worth. When deciding between oil and water based products, you have to weigh the pros and cons of each. Oil products may feel greasy in comparison, but typically they remain pliable throughout the day, won’t flake, and you don’t get that “helmet-hair”/glue-y feeling associated with gel or hairspray. (1) Concerning the Greasy Feeling: OF COURSE this pomade will feel "greasy" when compared to other water based products like hair gel, mousse, hair spray, etc. After all, the first six ingredients are oils or waxes (petroleum, microcrystalline wax, beeswax, lanolin, castor oil, and coconut oil). But just because a product is oil based, doesn't mean you should necessarily end up with greasy hair. I expect that J.E. Fritz was using far too much product. You really only need about a dime size glob for your entire head. I have used Lockhart's almost exclusively for a year and a half, and I haven't found their products (especially the medium and light holds) to be particularly greasy. On the contrary, they are quite a bit less greasy than other similar pomades out there (Murray’s, for example). (2) Concerning Spread-ability: This can be a huge adjustment when switching to a pomade. I think that the medium hold is very workable in comparison to other pomades (again, Murray’s is much thicker), but if rubbing it between your hands isn’t enough then there are a few other tricks. Try using the blow dryer on your hair for about a minute to warm it up. Your hair doesn’t have to be screaming hot; just a few degrees warmer than body temperature should do it. This will make the pomade basically melt into your hair, and it will also help you shampoo it out of your hair if you hit it with some hot air before jumping in the shower. I personally love Lockhart’s. My only criticism is that I’m not crazy about some of the scents. It would be great if they made all of the scents available in each of the different hold strengths. Otherwise, I think this pomade is pretty good.

Quality choice.
Great pomade, great smell, good hold. I bought this after using Suavecito and tiring of its blocky, hard, gel like qualities. Lockharts does not disappoint. I was worried that the strong hold or goon grease would have too much shine for my taste. The medium turned out to be perfect. I do not agree on what others say it smells like. I love the smell, but it is not a spicy incense to me as it is to many others. A fair wind will completely ruin your do. Luckily, you can slick it back until you can find a mirror to revamp. Hello people! It is an oil pomade! It isn't supposed to be easy to wash out. Do your research please, and don't give a bad review due to your ignorance. I find that a wash every night with normal shampoo takes just enough out so that applying more in the morning doesn't make it look gross. I'm glad I bought it.
