Takes my breath away
What a cute little lens. I must admit that I have a really nice Tamron 18-200 lens which I use pretty much as a prime lens on days out, holidays etc and it offers me a degree of flexibility for a day's general shooting which is great for touring, however, serious shots require serious lenses and dedicated to an APS-C camera, I view this as a serious lens. I am using it mainly for candid shots of street life, where the 2.8 aperture allows me to focus on the main subject leaving the rest out of focus. Previously I have used the similar sized 40mm lens, which again is superb, although a little noisier when focussing, with both producing pin sharp images. For those who use a similar lens on a full frame camera, or used to shoot in 35mm film, you get a similar perspective as the view you see as an individual.Five star item, super quick focus, light and quietly discreet, very small profile, relatively large aperture and at the price probably as good as you could get from any manufacturer and all in all a great lens for street work. Additional benefits include the ability to focus as close as 16 cm (6 inches to me), I can use it combined with my Canon 80d to take candid night street shots hand held; a real bonus over a kit type zoom or my Tamron zoom, with far less light distortion.Best results for me so far for night street work are exposures at around 1/125 ISO200 and let the camera do the rest of the exposure work for candid shots - street views allow a little more control. Day time there is obviously so much more flexibility, but for me it is simply superb for night time hand held photography in an urban environment. Combine it with the 40mm and 50mm primes and I have the opportunity for razor sharp images, without hunting for focus. It just is simply fantastic and I am so glad that I purchased it.UPDATE January 2021————Over 6 years on, I still use this lens on a regular basis and it remains outstanding on APS-C cameras. Whilst I have moved into full frame cameras now with a Canon 5d series, I still use my 80d and 550d when taking photographs in cities, bit also landscapes. Equivalent to a 35mm on my full frame outfit, this compact lens still produces razor sharp images and at the price, still offers amazing value and results.

Excellent.
Excellent Canon lens at a genuine Black Friday price. Good build with a metal mount and sharp as expected from a prime lens. On a cropped sensor, this lens, a 50mm lens and a decent 70ish to 300ish is all you need for general purposes. A great lens at 2/3rds the price.

Excellent travel lens
I am a professional photographer who doesn't like to carry around professional equipment on days out - too big, too bulky and too expensive. So this pancake lens is the exact opposite and perfect for me!I pair this lens with a Canon 200d. When you combine these two, it doesn't look as a retro or stylish as Fuji or Olympus compacts - but it weighs less and is actually physically smaller than the cameras which are often used for street photography by virtue of their compactness.I highly recommend putting this lens with a small DSLR such as 100d or 200d, and you will not even notice it on days out. During winter, I can even fit it in the larger pockets of my winter jacket, skipping the need for any sort of bag or carrying device. The lens itself is fine - for personal use on a 24MP camera, the image quality is fine and I am happy with the quality of my holiday and family photos. The AF is fast and accurate enough unless you are intent on making giant wall art from your photos.I also have the 40mm version of this lens, which is the same size. The 24mm, 40mm and the camera is my full travel kit.NB on the EF-S mount cameras the 24mm is going to have a roughly 38mm equivalent focal length. This is what makes it perfect for taking on days out, as a with a full frame body I would use something around 35mm for the versatility on the street.

Really impressive lense
The Canon EF-S 24mm f / 2.8 STM. It is a wide-angle prime designed for APS-C format. Considering the crop factor, it provides a focal length equivalent to 38 mm. What immediately strikes of this lens is the sharpness and the almost total absence of chromatic aberrations. This is due to the high technology involved, are present in this camera lens: an aspherical element and a coating of lenses optimized. Also allowing an extreme reduction of lens flare. Now we come to the really important parameter of this lens. A maximum aperture of f / 2.8, all at an average price of about 140 €. this feature until now was only present on two lenses of high range of the EF-S series. All at an average price of about 140 €. it is a camera lens extremely practical, silent and easy to handle. Just think that weighs only 125 grams. I really can not find anything against this jewel, Perhaps, it only has the ring of focus very sensitive. Almost "fluid". But this is not a defect.

A brilliant lens for a great price.
The 24mm F2.8 STM lens is great. The build quality is superb with a metal mounting ring and overall sturdy construction. The only thing to remember when getting this is that 24mm on a canon cropped sensor is closer to 40mm on a full frame camera which is a very useful focal length. The lens has an STM autofocus motor meaning it is nearly silent making it great for video work and the focal length is suited to vlogging. The focus ring is very smooth to turn which is also good for video work and focusing doesn't turn the front of the lens which is great when using a polarising filter. This lenses small form factor makes it great for carrying around aswell as being less intrusive and this makes it great for street photography. I have mine on a 100D and the two together are almost as small as some compact cameras, as Chase Jarvis said "The best camera is the one you have with you" and this lens makes it much easier to always carry your camera around. The minimum aperture of F2.8 is nice and wide so it lets in a lot of light which great at night or indoors when you can still get relatively fast shutter speeds. This lenses image quality is great sharp from corner to corner once you stop the lens down to about F5.6. Overall I love thens for its size, quality and price.
