Confidence Boost
Now I have decided my new colouring hobby is here to stay it is time to splash out on some top quality pencils. After much research, I have narrowed my search down to 2 choices. I will try a small box of each. The first is this box of 12 Faber-Castell polychromes. Not sure if I can add anything to all the previous reviews, but they are really lovely pencils to use. It surprised me how much better my colouring looked in my practice book. I wasn't using one of the really beautiful books I have, but a book with simple pictures to practice techniques yet my efforts were so much better than I have previously managed, thanks to these great pencils. I was able to create so many colours from this small set, the pencils were beautifully smooth and easy to blend and layer. As a comparative beginner to colouring, I did wonder if I would bother with expensive pencils as I am no artistic expert, just someone who always really enjoyed colouring as a child: tried it again as a relaxing hobby and found I love it just as much as when I was little. Having read many colourists reviews, watched plenty of YouTube demos I thought i would see if better quality pencils would make much of a difference, and am amazed at the outcome. These 12 pencils have improved my results so much and have given me an enormous boost of confidence. I was worried my efforts would not do my beautiful books justice, but this is no longer the case. I have no problem in thoroughly recommending these pencils, and don't believe that for me at least, others will beat them, but will try another manufacturers small set just to see.

Amazing colours from a 12 pack!
I have an admission to make, I am currently waiting for a pack of 36 of these pencils which I ordered from elsewhere last week - I couldn't wait to see what they were like having only used store brand cheapo pencils in the past - these had lowered in price so I ordered them Friday with next day delivery....They are absolutely lovely! They just glide, no scratchiness and they're lovely to blend. They work well with the Derwent thick blender pen too.I've done a complete colour chart this morning and begun trying them out on out some simple flower pictures where there is enough space to blend and use light and shade.I had a good look at reviews about different types of pencils and these came out best by far!So, I now have a set to practice and play with which are also portable - the case is very good and will keep them all in place and from jiggling around. Then, when my larger set arrives I can switch out colours into the 12 tin to take out and about with me - very good for something to do whilst sitting in the park during lockdown!

Fantastic Pencils
I purchased the tin of 12 colours to see if these pencils were as good as everyone says before parting with a lot of money for the full set. I shouldn't have worried, they are brilliant. Depending how hard you press, the colours can either be very soft and gentle or full on bright and colourful. There are a good range of colours in this small tin, and as with most good quality pencils the colours can be blended to create an infinite variety of shades and tones. The coverage is good and I have found that I don't get the typical pencil lines you can get with cheaper pencils when colouring, especially when you colour in small circles. They are in a totally different league to children's colouring pencils and I would recommend them to anyone who enjoys adult colouring, which is the reason I purchased them. I have now purchased the tin of 120 colours and am delighted with them. Following my recommendations a further two full sets have been purchased by other family members.

Better than prismacolour, last longer
These 12 pencils are great for the price, they are an oil based pencil and they lay down colour amazinglyThey sharpen to a fine point and blend really well, I actually prefer these to the prismacolour premier pencils, although you do need to use these a little differently to normal wax pencils, because they are oil based they slide on easily on the page so you do need to go in very lightly and add layersMy only issue with these was the colour range in the 12 set, the colours are very light, the light green is almost florescentI definately recommend getting the 12 set first if you're thinking of trying these pencils instead of buying the full set or a larger set, they're not for everyone and it does take awhile to get used to them after using wax pencils

Expensive but worth it
I bought these pencils for my daughter who was studying design for GCSE, which involved a lot of sketching and shading of drawings. I could see the difference when she started using these for shading - the colours are strong and clean, and they colour smoothly and evenly - and she said they were so much nicer to use than cheap pencils, and made it much easier to produce neat, evenly coloured designs. I don't know if this would make a difference to her grade in itself, but it did mean she was happier to spend time working on her designs, better motivated, and she felt more satisfied with the finished sketches. The pencils colour smoothly, can be blended but don't smudge as long as you're careful, and the leads can be sharpened easily without breaking too often. The tin is attractive and practical for school, protecting the pencils without taking up too much space. These pencils are expensive, but for an artist or older child who will look after them, well worth the extra money.
