Fox 40 Whistle

The whistle was recommended as the best to buy for Basketball referees. The pea design is not used in basketball and this whistle doesn't have one. It gives a clear, loud, high pitched tone that can be heard in the noisiest of basketball halls. We chose the plastic casing over the stainless as a safety precaution. We had heard of chipped/broken teeth being caused by the stainless one when a player ran into the ref. The plastic one is softer and doesn't appear to have this 'side-effect'.Recommend you also buy the lanyard, if only the wrist-strap type rather than the neck length one, so that it is not dropped if the referee is nudged.

As a football referee all the whistles I used before where good but often players didn't react to the call I did and played on. With the Fox40 I was shocked my self when blow into it the very first time. It's such a massive whistle that everyone will stop immediately. The first match I was blowing init to much so I still had a ringing in my ear next day. LOVE THIS WHISTLE and will get it again if I need a replacement. For UK buyers it takes a couple of weeks as it comes from Canada/USA but it's worth the wait.

Ear-splitting. Seriously, do not use indoors, you'll decimate your ear drums.Higher pitched than I expected; Originally wanted to use it for marshalling (referee whistle) but instead packed it into my survival/camping bag as an emergency whistle - there is absolutely no way at all people walking on the same mountain as you will not hear this. Tested with a friend in the countryside, could be heard an obscene distance away.

Great whistle but only when you get used to blowing it properly. You have to almost push your tongue against the tip and then remove it to give a sharp burst of air. If you just go to blow through it you'll get a very feeble whistle. Don't let this put you off its loud when you get it going right. Better than the ACME thunderer.

Have started coaching basketball again after not doing so for over 20 years. Needed a whistle to be effective with my group of teenage boys. I have always had a Fox 40 whistle back in the day so am very familiar with the brand. No pea/ball in the whistle. Pure, crisp, loud sound when one knows how to use it properly. Would highly recommend it for those who require a good whistle.

The Whistle is perfect - 100% Genuine product but the photo is misleading as it shows that the item comes with a lanyard but this is not the case

Happy to buy this whistle because it is the best for my sport of hockey. As an umpire, I can rely on this whistle to control the game and it never lets me down. As an umpire coach/assessor, I recommend this whistle to budding umpires as they never break down due to being pea-less! My only problem is, lending budding umpires my spare whistles which they do not return, resulting in me buying more, ha ha. Great product.

I wanted to get a few more of these whistles, I keep them on me when I'm hiking for emergencies ... This is the go to standard for a reliable and very loud whistle, that doesn't peak out or go silent when you blow really hard into itHaven't seen anything else that comes close to simplicity, price and performance !
