Contrary to the review "Far too easy to reset combination", the combination cannot be changed without knowing the existing one
Contrary to the review "Far too easy to reset combination", Kensington tech support state that the procedure for resetting the combination only works whilst the lock is unlocked [whilst the existing combination is shown on the dial]. I called them to check this. The illustrated product guide at http://accoblobstorageus.blob.core.windows.net/literature/9f1dee71-5369-4ed9-9a8e-d285fa734409.pdf tries to illustrate this [but does not explicitly state the fact].The combination lock is therefore effective, its resetting mechanism is a secure one. After checking this, I ordered one a few minutes ago. I have previously only used their keyed locks so I was very concerned by that earlier review.Edited 11 April 2015 -I have received the lock and have checked it for myself. The combination can only be changed whilst the existing combination is on the dial so the resetting mechanism is a secure one.The lock with its cable is so small that I won't even notice the room it takes up in my bag. The cable is coiled up so it is only about 3 inches long when not in use.I chose to buy it directly from Amazon rather than some anonymous Amazon Marketplace seller so I could be very confident that it was not a fake so that, in turn, I would only have to assume that Kensington designed the cable to withstand wirecutters [the cable is half the diameter of my old keyed Kensington lock]. Since Kensington boast about leading the industry, they have probably designed it well even if they do not state any precise specifications for its strength - "Kensington invented laptop security. Kensington locks are engineered to deliver both protection and ease of use. Our locks have been tested to set the industry standard and constructed from quality aircraft grade steel. Superior strength lockhead to resist tampering"The lock fits easily into the slot on the two [Dell] laptops I have tested. Some users have reported that they had to trim the rubber scratch-avoider bit to make it fit in properly but I did not need to do anything. If you want to know about its compatibility with your PC, you could ask Kensington [0203 364 5390] if they have a compatibility list. Kensington also respond to questions on their website - the page for this lock is at http://www.kensington.com/en/gb/v/4482/1679/portable-combination-laptop-locks#.VSO6SKN0zDc

Compact, decent quality lock
Very quick to attach/detach from laptop, code is changed by turning the screw on the end setting the new one and then turning it back (code must be correct to be able to turn the screw). I'd never regard a laptop lock as perfect security, the laptop is likely to be less robust than the lock but it's perfect for preventing opportunistic theft attempts. The one negative that I've found so far, the yellow strap is the worst piece of design I've seen on something that should have been very simple. Its fiddly, and cumbersome to open or close, I took it off, threw it away and replaced it with a velcro cable strap which is what they should have supplied to start with.

Great product, even better in the flesh than in the pictures!
I ordered a Kensington lock to protect my MacBook Pro. It fits snugly in the Kensington lock slot on the right hand side of the machine, in front of the disk drive. The rubber seal around the contact area between the lock and notebook body protects it from scratching and noise. The combination is easy to use and remove and I've had absolutely no problems with it. I really do like the coiled cable as this creates more space by removing all that excess cable that you often won't need. Since I use my notebook mainly in my room on my desk in a student flat, I like to keep it locked and this means I don't have to lock my door when I exit my room for a short while because I know that it can't be stolen since it is locked securely to the table. The coiled cable also makes it easier to travel with since it takes up less space. Also, the cable is perhaps a bit thicker than you might expect from seeing the photos, which is definitely a good thing. In short: if you're looking for a K-lock, commute or travel with your computer regularly, don't need a long cable...then this is the right product for you. Highly recommended!

Kensington Combination Ultra Laptop Lock
Still working fine after 5 years of use. The laminated cable is very stiff so it's extremely hard to store with a coil diameter any less than about 25cm, but if you're throwing it in a laptop sleeve this isn't an issue.

Can be fiddly
When I can get the lock to properly engage in the slot on my laptop, it's great - but half the time I don't seem to be able to get that far! I find it quite difficult to slot it in properly so that the numbers can be turned to secure the lock. There must be a knack to it that I haven't yet learned after a few months of use...

Worth it to keep your laptop secure
Cable could be a bit thicker, i.e. larger diameter, then again it would not be so portable, but it is very very strong, and the lock is easy to fit and use, far easier I've heard than the regular Kensington locks that need alignment to lock, where this just clicks on very easily..as long as you have it fed through something secure, a closed gap of some sort, this will deter majority of opportunistic thief's and burglars. They really would need one of those industrial bolt cutters with 2-3' handles to cut this cable, and even then the lock would still be attached securely to the locknut in the K-slot, unless you have a tank like panasonic tough-book, removing it by force would do significant damage to the average laptop.

Nice compact lock !
I got this and i am really happy with it. Once again amazon delivery is amazing.About the lock, the cable is really strong, the lock looks really well made and with a 4 number combination gives you a huge variety of combinations, much better then a 3 number lock. To open and lock the lock is really easy, you can do it easily with one hand, just choose the combination and press a button and youre good to go.I feel much more comfortable to leave my laptop in the office while i go lunch.Note: this isn't 100% anti theft, this is amazing to dissuade a "regular person" from taking your laptop if the room where it is have more people there.Overall great item, easy to carry, would recommend because i do feel much more relieved.
