The Jesus and Mary Chain were a step ahead musically
Excellent album. The Jesus and Mary Chain were a step ahead musically on "Honey's Dead" (1992, Blanco y Negro/Rhino). Since the begining of thier carrer in 1985 the brothers Reed had a commitment for doing something new intentionally. Musically they improved on each album from "Psychocandy" (1985, Blanco y Negro) to "Munki" (1998, Creation) mixing their trademark noisy-guitar driven riffs with melodic passages and later adding some Electronica paving the way for other 90's innovative bands like Garbage, Curve, Ride, Lush, etc..This review is for the underrated DualDisc version (CD/DVD sides on the same disc for uninformed) wich can be played on standard DVD players also contains an Advance Resolution 96kHz/24bit Stereo Surround and Dolby Stereo Sound Remastered Audio. It's a little bit different from the SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc) wich only have one side. Both formats are very good for people who wants to catch the music as perfect as can it be represented on a single CD I still don't understand why a lot of people don't get that point.

Got My Senses Strung Out To The Sky
Edsel!!!! These 2 cd/ 1 DVD reissues are beyond awesome. Jesus And Mary Chain are a very worthy recipient of such treatment. Between 1987 and 1992, they were unstoppable. In my opinion, this is their last great album. The trilogy of Darklands, Automatic, and Honey's Dead is essential, and all I need from this band (well, along with Barbed Wire Kisses). This gorgeously packaged reissue includes the Rollercoaster E.p., and such great b-sides as Heat, GuitarMan, and Don't Come Down. With more drug references than I can count, and a sick, post Madchester Rave up production, this is modern guitar rock at its finest. Do not hesitate. Buy this yesterday!

one of their best
Pretty much every JMC album is "one of the best" in my book, so I'm not sure what that means. A fantastic album by a perennially underappreciated band. "Almost Gold" is what rock music, intelligent rock music, is all about. This is one of those ablums that I wish I'd bought years before I actually got around to it. Don't make the same mistake.

Sound MUCH improved on BOTH the CD and DVD sides!!
First of all, this is a 5 star album to begin with. Originally released in 1992, this release is the JAMC's most intense, searing album, opening with one of their greatest-ever singles, Reverence. The Dual Disc improves the CD sound, and the sound is even better on the DVD side. The 3 videos on the DVD side are all really good, especially Reverence. There is a JAMC video collection on VHS tape, but it is now out-of-print. It is notable that the 3 videos here are NOT on that video collection. This is a MUST for ALL JAMC fans!!!

Good album, but very overrated. Has not aged extremely well.
Great album, but in my opinion this is perhaps their most overrated effort. Typically seen as a return of form for the band, this album kept them relevant in the 90s. JAMC reeeeaallly sound like they're trying to be cool, which doesn't look good on a band who were initially known for their sense of effortless cool. Much is said about them getting a real drummer on this album, but at least half of these songs have drums that sound just as programmed as anything on their last album, Automatic. The thing that kills it for me though, is that the drum programming has not aged well, and definitely sounds very 90s, and not necessarily in a good way. Also, a lot of the ballads fall flat for me, which is a real shame, because JAMC has always shone with their ballads. Perhaps this is blasphemous, but looking back with hindsight, it really seems to me that Automatic is the big underrated gem, and Honey's Dead is the overrated album that has not aged extremely well.Still, it has plenty of primo JAMC, so it is certainly worth having.

Still Honey is not really dead but there is a definite sweetness to the album’s 12 songs
The Jesus and Mary Chain – Honey’s DeadOriginally released in 1992 on Blanco Y Negro and then remastered in 2006 by Rhino, Honey’s Dead is a charming return to form for the Reid brothers. Yes, a handful of chart topping singles, starting with the opener, Reverence illustrates JAMC’s pop sensibilities. The guitars though have less intensity and what is noticeable is the greater emphasis on harmonies and vocals, giving the album a Shangri-Las and Phil Spector vibe. Still Honey is not really dead but there is a definite sweetness to the album’s 12 songs. Does the album title refer the opening song off Psycho Candy, Just Like Honey? No matter, Jim & William have perfected the pop song with blending Velvet Underground and classic soul melting into the Beach Boys.

Un must.

Rollercoaster
Not every fan's favourite, but it's mine. I wasn't expecting much when I bought it (at Bradleys in Doncaster, fact fans), but it blew me away. Great memories of the Rollercoaster tour at Sheffield, too.
