Battery charging is new to me, do you just connect it up, choose the mode and thats it, leave it??

Yes pretty much. You select the batter type first, then connect up. And the charger auto stops when battery charged. It’s really easy to use, and the instructions that come with it are clear and easy to understand. (Mine came with an instruction booklet).

Can this charge and maintain a heavy duty fully sealed battery

The charger can be used on any type of battery. Just select the type to be charged.

I've got a Leisure battery can you leave this connected to the battery when it's being used or do you have to disconnect it

It shouldn't be a problem just less amps will go into your battery and the charger may be tricked into a heavier charge phase. It's just an opinion, and not advice, so only do it at your own risk. I use my leisure batteries with a different smart charger connected with no problems.

Does the battery need to be disconnected from the car for repair mode?

I have used that mode without disconnecting the battery; in fact I have never disconnected the battery charger while using this model or a older charger that I used for circa 30 years. Check your car manual
