Don't give up too soon: this is an excellent sleeping pad!
My experience with this pad is a bit different than the other reviews here, I left the valve open for 24 hours but it didn't self inflate. Before returning it I decided to just blow it up manually, that worked, and I slept on it for several days before rolling it up tightly to force all the air out. Well, lo and behold, it self inflated within a few minutes all by itself after the compression strap was removed just like it's supposed to! Don't give up on the gem if it doesn't behave as advertised right out of the box, give it a chance even if you have to manually blow it up the first time. Also, if you can afford the space, consider getting a large box-style (not mummy style) sleeping bag and inserting this sleeping pad upside down (i.e., narrow end under your head) on the *inside* of the sleeping bag. Doing so prevents me from accidently wiggling or rolling off the pad in the middle of the night during deep slumber, there's nothing worse than waking up cold in the dirt with a comfortable sleeping pad right beside you. During really cold weather just put a fleece sleeping bag liner on top of the pad inside your sleeping bag and wear long underwear. This arrangement kept me warm and toasty without a tent when temperatures dropped into the mid-20s, this is a wonderful sleeping pad that I would recommend to anyone.

Sturdy and inflates well and comfortable, but too narrow
As soon as I received my pad I opened the valve and let it inflate. It inflated pretty well, and only needed a few big puffs into the valve to get it fully inflated. The material is pretty rugged and should hold up well for outdoor use, and does not stick to bare skin too much, like some mattresses. I have slept on it three nights now and it’s comfortable, with one important caveat, it is narrower than any inflatable mattress I have ever owned, and your feet easily slide off the mat while your sleeping and the shoulder area is narrower than I realized, so moisture on the floor of the tent will likely get my bag wet.

Inflates really well!
I bought this for my 13 year old son who is 5’10” for mostly car camping. This is a really good pad that truely is self inflating. Be patient with it and it will inflate really well. If you want it to be firmer then give it 1-2 breaths. The materials seem quality and the pack size is outstanding. If you are taller than 5’10” I’d look at something longer or something will be hanging off of this pad, either your head or your feet.

Not as good as what I thought i would get
Not as good as what I thought i would get. My wife and I tried them out backyard camping (flat yard) just didnt provide support or comfort

Comfortable, quality pad
I've had a few self-inflating pads (including Therma-Rest) in the past. So far, this one is the best of the bunch. With this one, I can comfortably sleep on my side, my normal sleep position. A word of advice: do NOT leave this or any self-inflatable pad compressed in storage. Try to avoid rolling it up too tightly. I once destroyed a good pad that way. The foam inside will take only so much abuse, and long-term compression degrades its ability to expand for inflation. That said, this Raw Alpine pad is a good one, and with care will give many seasons of comfortable camp sleeping.

I hated it. Literally felt like I was lying straight ...
So prior to having this I had a cheap foam mat. I hated it. Literally felt like I was lying straight on the ground, rocks and all. Then this beauty comes in my life, changes everything. This pad is so comfortable and it can be adjusted to your preference of firmness level. I also like that it is in a mummy shape but yet not too narrow for my body. The only reason why I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because after you use it, it is impossible to get it back in the bag it came in.

Great support. Even lying on my side
Really lightweight. Self inflates most of the way, a few puffs to completely inflate. Great support. Even lying on my side, I can't feel the ground. Easy to deflate and get back in the included sack.

Warm and comfy!
30° desert camping. Brrrr. This pad kept me insulated from the ground. Its very comfy too! Never slept so well in a tent before this. I mighr consider bringing it on a 2-3 backpacking trip. Any longer I would find something less bulky (to save room for food) I definitely recommend it.
