Kikkoman Usukuchi Soy Sauce, 17 Ounce

A lot of good flavor, but advise do not salt you food, this contains a lot of salt on its own

This light soy sauce is essential for me to make Japanese dishes or soup. Unlike regular soy sauce, which has a unique smell and taste, this soy sauce has a slightly salty taste and is light in color, and can be used to season dishes without disturbing the flavor of the ingredients.

I only got this one because for some reason it's hard as heck to find Kikkoman at a decent price on Amazon. I also figured it would be fun to try an actual Japanese Kikkoman and I'm glad I did.This one doesn't have nearly as much of an umami punch as regular Kikkoman, but that can be a good thing. It's harder to overwhelm your food with the flavor that screams SOY SAUCE. It comes across more like a gentle kiss of umami with a very subtle hint of sweet. This makes it a lot nicer for something like tamagoyaki or more delicate broths that could easily be overwhelmed by normal soy sauce. Plus it's actually lighter in color so you're also less likely to turn your food brown or muddy.Personally I think I'll be keeping both in my pantry going forward, because sometimes you want the soy sauce bomb effect and sometimes you want something a bit more subtle. There's definitely room for both.

Tastes great but still salty. Supposed to be less salty tasting but seems the same to me. It's also more expensive than regular soy sauce.

Just purchased product and it expires in two weeks. Shameful, product shouldn't be sold so close to expiration date.
