Better than Starbucks
5/5 Stars "I'm absolutely loving my Zulay Magia Coffee Machine! As a coffee aficionado, I was blown away by the rich, bold flavors it produces. The machine is incredibly easy to use, clean, and maintain. The Magia's compact design fits perfectly on my countertop, and the sleek look adds a touch of modern style to my kitchen. But what truly impresses me is the quality of the coffee. Whether I'm brewing a strong espresso or a flavorful pour-over, the Magia delivers every time. The customer service team at Zulay is also top-notch – friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable. Overall, I'm thoroughly enjoying my Magia Coffee Machine and highly recommend it to anyone seeking a premium coffee experience at home."

What You Want To Know — the good and the ugly
Let me preface — I love the Magia and you can read my initial review at the bottom. However, ours, at least, has a serious flaw that has remained unaddressed. I wrote the Magia folks about the insane amount of waste the Magia produces because coffee spills all over the inside of the machine, way more than is actually used to make coffee. I wrote the Magia folks and sent them pictures.I quickly got a cheerful reply that answered none of my concerns. In essence, they said it was simply a matter of proper adjustment. Well, I followed every step of the instruction video, to no avail. The Magia continues to blow coffee grounds all over the inside of the machine, necessitating a major cleanup every day. Maybe we have a faulty brewer, maybe the design simply isn’t optimized, but 2/3 of all ground coffee going to waste is really unacceptable. Update May 15, 2025: It's been a year and a half since I purchased the Magia for my husband. And despite its fundamental design flaw -- the huge waste due to a very poor brewer design -- we're still using the Magia every day. Yes, it still works. But ONLY because we now know all the many ways it can be fixed (not by the vendor, by US!), and because we're putting up with its glitches and its huge waste of coffee -- probably at least 2/3 of the coffee that goes in ends up spilled all over the inside of the machine -- by scraping out the wasted ground coffee and use it on an old-fashioned Mr Coffee. As is, it looks like Zulay is no longer selling the machine new. Too bad, because all that needed to be redesigned and fixed is the brewer, which is a separate module. It looks like it should have been an easy re-design fix. —— Below the initial review, If you ever wanted one of those espresso/specialty coffee machines that’s somewhere between low-end (from low $100s) and high-end (thousands), the Magia fits the bill. We’ve had ours for a month and a half, and use it multiple times every day. So here are some of my comments and impressions. First, this is NOT a high-end coffee machine and not even a Mr Coffee replacement. It’s also not for those who drink coffee by the 32-ounce tumbler mug, for the Magia can barely accommodate a US-size tall cup. The Magia CAN make regular coffee (“Americano”), but it’s really for making Italian style specialty coffee drinks: Espressos (very strong), Restrettos (super-strong), Macchiatos, Cappuccinos, Lattes, and other coffee/milk/foamed milk combinations. How well does it work? Very well, but there’s a bit of a learning curve. The instructions that come with it show good effort (the basic setup steps even printed on the box it comes in), but not extremely detailed. Watching the instruction videos helps. The elegant touch screen interface (likely Android-based) makes everything quite simple. You tap to select one of the programmed drinks as is, you can finetune each drink in how strong, how much, how much of what, temperature, etc. Each member of the household can personalize their own favorite drinks. You’ll learn to love the various ways foamy, frothy milk can make for delightful coffee drinks. The machine also contains recipes that include other flavors that you put in manually. The Magia is quite complex, and it cleans and maintains itself. It makes all sorts of preparation and operating sounds, hissing, steaming and disposing of waste water. You need to learn where to place a dish for waste. The Magia alerts when the coffee or water supply is low (calling it a “shortage”), when the coffee grounds waste container (it presses the grounds into little pucks) needs to be emptied, or when the machine should be “descaled” (a process that takes over half an hour). It does most very well, but it can get confused, alerting to no beans when there still are plenty, or sometimes just spitting water instead of milk (reboot). There is considerable waste; a lot of the ground coffee piles up inside the machine, so fairly frequent cleaning is necessary. The way milk is handled is not elegant. You put the milk into a cup next to the machine and insert a flexible tube to suck the milk. Apparently the newer white version of the Magia comes with a nice milk tumbler with the proper tube attachment, but that’s not separately available (yet) for the black version. Cup size is an issue. The coffee/milk dispenser can be adjusted up and down, but even the tallest it goes isn’t enough for many US cups. And the Magia doesn’t tell you what size cup it needs for a drink. Given its sophisticated computer interface, that info should be added. You can, however, stop dispensing during the pouring. Overall, way more fun and way more useful than we expected. It’s complex, though, and time will tell whether the Magia (or its fascination) will hold up.

Great Product & Great Price
I originally read through the mixed reviews and decided to take a chance as I have owned Delonghi and a Jura automatic espresso machines both of which failed / required expensive repairs. I have been using the unit for over a month now and it performs perfectly. There were some reviews implying that the written manual was insufficient, however, there really is nothing difficult about using and maintaining the machine. Anyone who is not able figure out how to use all of the functions should probably not be handling hot liquids anyway. Another review indicated that the coffee was not hot enough but there is an easy adjustment for this as well and the expresso I made was very hot (as much as any other espresso machine I used). The construction of the unit is just as good as the competitors and the large display allows for easy customization of the drink menu. I typically do not write reviews for purchases but felt that the other negative responses were unwarranted.

Pretty Good
Update: I purchased the product December of 2023 and wrote the below review. Since then I have made quite literally hundreds of drinks. Lots more experience and in the original review I indicated I would give an update if I ever heard out of Zulay regarding registering the warranty and logging into their system. Today is February 10th, 2023 and I did hear back today from them regarding the registered warranty. It's registered! So I'm thankful for that. The auto feed works a little better now I imagine running some beans through it has helped. I still occasionally have to push them in whenever it hangs up but otherwise it's not much of a complaint of mine now. Everything else remains about exactly the same I'm happy with the quality over the last few months, happy with everything that it does for me and I think it was just right for the price. I'm honestly not sure what I would look for in the next unit as I'm overall satisfied with this one. Original review Had the machine for 2 weeks now and have been trying out different drinks, settings, variations, profiles etc and I do like it, but waited a few weeks to fully use and try things out before making a review. Overall, this is a good machine, esp for the price (I paid $699 before taxes and I also paid for the extra protection because I read that it had an LED screen that stays on all the time and I figured that would go out in the first 4 years of use) Pros/Cons. Pros * Heats up fast * Super easy clean up (for what little the user has to do) * Good price comparably to the market for the same or close features. * Very, very, customizable drinks inside the user profiles (eg amount of froth, milk, strength of coffee, temperature etc). Don't let this frustrate you stick it out you'll get the perfect cup. * Basic drink setups not inside of user profiles are pretty good without much modification a little weak on the strength for my style, but still delicious. * The milk frother is Epic! That's all that needs said about that (My girls just like whole cups of froth sometimes). Be ready to invest in milk products there's going to be a lot of them. Con * Go ahead and buy a new set of small coffee cups because the large one/tall one you have is is not going to go underneath that little space and you cannot remove the drip tray to install a much larger cup. It does handle a range of cups but not your large tumbler style or your tall coffee mugs. Think wider and not taller. The liquid drip nozzle does adjust up and down but even at its highest won't accommodate a very tall coffee mug (think insulated cups here as those that won't fit on average). * The beans that I've used (almost through one large bag of bold whole bean Starbucks coffee) have not fallen into the grinder very well. I find myself frequently having to push the beans down into the sides of the grinder hole because the machine reports that it's low on beans even though the hopper is full. It could just be the beans I'm using although they're pretty oily so I would be surprised if there's anything about it sticking, but my initial thought is that there's probably a poor slope or just slightly undersized opening for the beans. Usually works good for a while after pushing them in but does continue to have that problem. * Heats up to 95* at its customizable peak for coffee and is close or just below that for the milk. I'd prefer just about 5* hotter. (I'm picky, I know). * The only way to customize drinks in the user profiles is to go ahead and start the drink there's not a way to modify the drinks strength or froth or milk or heat or any of that without starting the drink so if you don't actually want to do the drink you kind of waste the beans etc. You also only have the time it takes to make the drink to modify the drink. Again this can only be done in the user profile no where else. * The LED screen stays on all the time even after you shut the machine off/ put it through it shut down process (to be fair I knew this before I purchased it from another review - it's not the end of the world it's just annoying). I've not tried to unplugging it cuz I'm afraid it might wipe out the user profiles if unplugged for a long time (And I would test it but the inconvenience of losing a coffee that I've worked pretty hard to get right is worth more than having the screen black during the day). It would be helpful if somebody from the customer service department would get back with me so that I could ask questions like this that are not included in their user manual or online anywhere. * It does have a pretty good size water reservoir however, it will go through the water reservoir pretty quickly because of its self-cleaning capabilities it uses a lot of water. (Admittedly I use the machine right now far more than most small families would use it). It fills up the drip tray even if you put a cup under it because part of the self-cleaning feature runs water through the Brewer inside to clean it, into the drip tray. * I reached out to register the machine and create a user profile on their website but was unsuccessful and tried to leave a request for them to reach back out to me through that feature on their website but nobody ever got back to me. I only tried once and it was after hours so could be that I need to try again, but even the email that it says it sent to me never showed up in junk spam or other. I fear this is a hint at their communication should an actual issue arise. Glad to admit user error if I can fix that (I'll update my review when I am successful). * Instructions provided in the box are pretty simple and basically Center around the setup process of the machine but a more in depth user manual would be helpful. Some more discussion around customizing drinks would be helpful. YouTube videos found online are very basic and not all that helpful. * This machine takes up a lot of counter space and the water bucket is on the very back. Thankfully the water bucket's pretty easy to maneuver out and then without much agility but it's a little inconvenient as most counter space has cabinets over the top. I don't ever have to move the machine to fill it up but I do have to finagle it out just a little bit. Giving the number of times it has to be refilled because of my larger family and it's excessive water use it's a little inconvenient but not that bad. * If you're not careful about how you set the cleaning schedule after the last cup It will follow your exact instructions and go ahead and clean it into your next cup. It doesn't put chemicals or anything into the drink but it will dilute the drink with water or change the mix of milk if the milk frothing tube is in the cup at the time it goes into clean mode. This can be modified with user selections so it's not a big deal but something to be aware of.

Quality and Even Worse Customer Service I purchased the Zulay Magia coffee machine hoping for a reliable, high-quality product, but unfortunately, my experience has been nothing short of frustrating. The machine malfunctioned just two weeks after the warranty expired — a clear sign of poor durability and quality control. When I reached out to customer service, they were initially unwilling to help. After a lot of back and forth, they finally agreed to repair it, but only if I covered the shipping costs myself. Considering how close this was to the warranty period, that response felt unfair and unprofessional. To make matters worse, Zulay does not honor the warranty if you purchase internationally, which is something they don’t make very clear upfront. This entire experience has been extremely stressful and avoidable. Between the poor product reliability, lack of accountability, and unhelpful customer service, I can’t recommend the Magia coffee machine or Zulay as a company.”
