The type of glass used in this artwork is borosilicate glass, also called Pyrex, and the glitter comes from the dichroic glass inclusion, which acts as a colored mirror giving off shimmery sparkles. The marbles are formed by heating the glass with a torch to the point that it is soft and fluid. The back of each marble has a raked design pulled into the center that creates a colorful flower like mandala design. Another detail that makes these marbles distinct is that the artist uses an age old Italian glass technique called milliefiore in a new and exclusive way to sign his work. Each marble contains a slice of millifiore that says “Rob,” melted into each piece. The marbles come with a rubber O-ring for display purposes.
