These are dishwasher and microwave safe. They do get pretty hot though. I really LOVE these dishes. I use them in the fall, SO CUTE! **Q: Are these lead free?** A: yes our products are Prop 65 compliant and food contact safe. **Q: It concerns me that it gets hot when in microwave? Any thoughts?** A: Some dishes get hot because they have metals in the ceramics or in the glaze. These dishes do not get so hot as they can't be handled. I often put the mug in the microwave to reheat my coffee for 45 seconds or so and I do not notice that the mug gets extra hot. **Q: Are the pieces available separately? Just in case of breakage.** A: Don’t think so. In my first shipment, all the dinner plates were broken. I contacted Amazon thru web site and they promised to replace ASAP and they replaced everything.
