These heating pads really do work.
These heating pads really do work. I had my doubts but these pads actually do work. I am currently using these with a 5 gallon gravity fed plastic bottom waterer. I was worried that these wouldn't get warm enough to keep my water from freezing OR that they would melt my waterer. As it is though these do get super hot. The water that comes out of the waterer is steaming hot, definitely no where near freezing, but also not hot enough to compromise the plastic of my waterer. I'd highly recommend these.

inexpensive and work great.
they warm up fast. I have one under each of my metal chicken water pans to keep the water from freezing at night. I will be adding a thermostat controlled plug to this so the will turn off once the temperature gets above freezing. So i can save a little on my electric bill and maybe prolong the life of the heat pads.

Works too well! Do not use on plastic Chicken Waterers!
This is great if you can use a metal or ceramic bowl but do not use on a plastic chicken waterer. It will melt the bottom of the waterer. I went a different route for the chicken waterers this time but did use this with an old crockpot insert for stray cats to have water that wasn't frozen and that was perfect.

Started a fire in coop
So, I like the look of the design.Put it under a water dish to keep it from freezing, right?I have 2 chicken coups. Both have wood shavi gs for bedding. I put down two cinder blocks to raise waterer out of bedding set the heating pad on the cinder blocks and topped off with metal waterers. Both seemed to be working well for a few days. The water never froze up even in our -3 weather.Everything seemed fine, I would check on the flocks several times a day to grab eggs before they froze. On the 5th morning one of the wagerers was low and had been knocked off its stand. The heating pad was in the shavings. I picked it up and it was REALLY HOT. I thought maybe I am just really cold.Anyway went out a little late this morning and bothered wagerers had been knocked over. I could smell singed wood chips in the first coop. I unplugged it and went over to the other coop. The pad had gotten buried in the shavings and there was smoke! I unplugged it and pulled it up, it had melted! I grabbed a shovel of snow and put out the burn. I can't imagine what would have happened if I were at work. You know, if one is bad it could have had a defect but both???Don't buy.

Excellent product for the price!
Bought this product to heat up water in a metal pet dish for the feral cats. The water was warmed to the perfect temperature for the cold weather!

Doesn’t work
When I first plugged it in, it made a burning rubber smell and got VERY hot, to the point that I was afraid to use it under a 5-gallon plastic bucket. Now, several months later when I actually need it in subzero temps, it won’t even keep a 3-gallon galvanized poultry waterer from freezing. I do not recommend it and I wish I hadn’t waited so long to actually put it to use because now it’s too late to return it. Useless.
