Baby Loves Thermodynamics! (Baby Loves Science)

Beautiful illustrations and solid content
The illustrations in this book are just wonderful. While the content is not exactly a reference text for thermodynamics, it is effective in getting across the main idea that living things rely on the sun's energy.

Grandbaby loves this book
Well-written and illustrated book that communicates to a *baby*. After all, this is a "Baby loves" book, so it needs to be simple.

I love these books
I love all these books. And more importantly so does my 3 year old daughter. Its the cutest thing hearing her say momma lets read ( gravity or quarks or thermal dynamics or quantum physics). The best two are gravity and quarks if your looking for an introductory book to start with. They explain the subject pretty well and my daughter seems to get it. I love these books so much that i have been showing them to everyone i know. Where they have children or not.

A hit with the little ones!
Gave this to my granddaughter for her second birthday. She loved it and wanted it read on repeat! A bit of whimsy, perfect for our family of scientists and engineers.

Despite criticism, it is worth buying
While I agree with the criticism about the actual topic of the book, I found it wonderfully done and well presented for a small child. Yes, light+air+water=food will take a few more years for baby to understand. However, the spread over the three seasons was wonderful and a great way to start the conversation of stored energy (food). I enjoyed reading it to baby and she enjoyed the bright images. Spiro's other books have been added to my registry and I look forward to buying them.

I thought it would be a good one to read to my kids for fun
If you're expecting entropy or enthalpy discussed, don't look here. I'm teaching thermodynamics now to my high schoolers and I got this for my 1 year old. I thought it would be a good one to read to my students for fun. (I used Baby Loves Quarks with my chem 1 studebts. I had them justify the science of the illustrations; a great activity.) This book is about the sun's energy. I wish is were called Baby Loves Photosynthesis ... because it definitely isn't thermodynamics. Cute illustrations and science information, but just not what I was expecting for thermo. (I preordered in May, received in Sept. Sight unseen.)

Not as good as Quarks
This is cute but Baby Loves Quarks was so much more detailed. I was expecting more from this book. I know it's for babies so I'm not expecting a dissertation but it left something to be desired. The illustrations are great tho and my 21 month old likes the book

My husband and I loved the Quarks one so we confidently pre-ordered the books ...
My husband and I loved the Quarks one so we confidently pre-ordered the books on Thermodynamics and Quantum Physics. After all that excited anticipation, both turned out to be *huge* disappointments. The Quarks book is packed with scientific information (see my review there); the narrative in this one is a joke. I am returning both this and the Quantum Physics one (which has an even more vacuous narrative). I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 for two reasons: 1) the illustrations are still good even if the writing is weak; 2) I want to encourage the author to keep trying with this series -- the Quarks one was ingeniously done and i believe Spiro has the ability to do an improved second edition on Thermodynamics and Quantum Physics.

My toddler loves this!
All the Baby Loves Science books are awesome, but this one is my kid's favorite. It isn't as wordy as a couple of the others and she loves the bright pictures of the trees and the sun. Of all the books in her (admittedly massive) collection, she gravitates to this one most of the time. She loves to mimic the baby taking a bite of the apple. It's fun to get her to point out all the different animals on the last page. These books are fantastic for fostering an interest in STEM.

Should be 'Baby Loves the Food Chain', not ...'Thermodynamics'
I love this whole series but I'm very disappointed in this particular book. I was expecting a baby version of the three laws, but this book is all about energy transfer through the food chain (producers, consumers).

the illustrations are beautiful and my baby loves it
Although the content is simpler than expected, the illustrations are beautiful and my baby loves it.

Not about thermodynamics
As the holder of a physics PhD, I got quite taken with the idea of finding a "Baby's First Book of Thermodynamics" for my daughter, and was impressed to find that such a book already seemed to exist. I probably should have read the reviews instead of just impulse buying this and Baby Loves Quantum Physics. This book is in fact a very simple description of photosynthesis, and has nothing at all to do with thermodynamics. Little ones will probably enjoy the story of the sun shining on a tree and a baby getting to eat an apple, but it bears little relation to what was promised by the title. It's a real shame, and I will have to continue my search for something closer to what I was expecting - or perhaps write my own!

This book is about the most fundamental, first law ...
This book is about the most fundamental, first law of thermodynamics - conservation of energy. (so I disagree with other reviewers saying this book is not about thermodynamics). It's more fundamental and important than temperatures or engines. This book is about telling your child that the trees growing, us growing and moving is all physics. And life is possible thanks to the sun.
