They changed the design on the old wooden style rat trap and added some cheap parts that made it pretty useless. This on the other hand works like a charm. What a beast. It's pretty brutal, but that leads to a quick death. Nothing worse than having to kill a rat after it has been caught. it's a completely different concept than the classic rat trap and a great improvement. There is no way to get to the bait without stepping on the sensitive plate around it. And because the bait goes in a little cup you don't have to get all creative about how you get things on the hook like you do with a classic rat trap. personally, I don't want to deal with cleaning a rat trap after I've killed something with it. I just throw out the whole thing and start over. It's worth it to me, so I think of this as a one used item, which I'm sure the manufacturer appreciates. If someone gave me a dollar price for how much it would cost to get rid of one rat it would be about the cost of the trap. It did take a little practice figuring out how to finesse setting it up. It's not exactly obvious. I really appreciate the fact that you don't have to get your fingers anywhere near the danger zone to set it up like you do with a classic rat trap. I read some of the negative reviews and it does make sense that this would be hard for someone who didn't have good hands or coordination, but a classic trap would be much more dangerous to handle. During the recent crazy rainstorm they were trying to get out of the weather and literally ate their way through my garage around an electrical outlet and got in the house. Four rats in three days. Case closed. Review: Good product - Easy to use and catchs rats! They seemed well built and designed, when I first deployed them , early on the evening, when I got the shipment, the temperature was in the low 70's F. I did catch one rat that night, but after resetting it as the temperature reached about 80 F, they trap would just snap shut , all by itself. So and behold , the other traps, started snapping shut , as it got warmer. These things are absolutely useless, the worst traps I ever purchased. I have purchased hundreds of traps in the last 40 years and these are JUNK! I sent a review to the seller and they never replied, my guess is they would go out of business, if they had to issue refunds. **Q: How many traps in the order/set? Do you need to wear gloves when setup the trap to avoid any human smell on the trap?** A: There was 6 traps to the set. I did after it caught the mouse because there was blood on the trap and it's like a bear trap in a way. There are teeth that clamp down on the mouse. I have returned my traps because once it caught a mouse the inside piece broke and we could not reset the traps. **Q: Why are the traps not working.** A: something is wrong with these. the 2018 reviews are all good. but the batch I just got here in June of 2020 have the same problem everyone else is complaining about, the traps go off a few seconds or minutes after they are set. **Q: What bait works best for rats? I was having good luck with peanut butter, but now they lick it off without triggering the trap.** A: Peanut butter works great for me but it doesnt take much. Dont overfill the bait cup so they cant get it without setting off the trap. Also try a small piece of cheese softened and pressed into the cup. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Many improvements over the classic rat trap *by M***C on April 16, 2026* I had to go looking for an alternative to the classic rat trap. YAY ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Break easily but if good do work! *by G***. on August 20, 2026* Good trap but the plastic latch that holds it open in back breaks easily. Bought 12 traps and did catch lots of rats, plus a bird, snake and frog too. But only 8-9 still work. Good concept but cheap plastic parts. ## Frequently Bought Together - Rat Trap Six Pack - Indoor and Outdoor Traps for Mice, Voles, Rats, Chipmunks - Easy to Set, Powerful Snap, Quick Kill - by Guarden - Catchmaster Rat, Snake and Mouse Traps 10Pk, Large Bulk Glue Rat Traps for Home, Pre-Scented Adhesive Plastic Tray for Inside House, Snake, Mice, & Spider Catcher, Pet Safe Pest Control - Tratper Rat and Chipmunk Traps.
