Sonic Frontiers (PS5) Review – A Bold Leap Into the Open Zone
As a lifelong Sonic fan, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Sonic Frontiers — but after diving in on the PlayStation 5, I can confidently say: this is the boldest and most refreshing Sonic game in years.Sonic Frontiers takes the Blue Blur into uncharted territory — quite literally. The game blends open-world exploration with classic Sonic platforming elements, giving players the freedom to roam sprawling, mysterious islands while still delivering the speed and momentum the franchise is known for.Why It Works So Well:🌀 Open-Zone Gameplay: Instead of linear levels, you’re free to explore massive environments full of puzzles, secrets, and enemies. It's a mix of Breath of the Wild-style exploration with Sonic’s high-speed flair.⚔️ Fast-Paced Combat: For the first time, Sonic has a full-on combat system! From flashy combos to special abilities, battling giant robotic bosses feels surprisingly satisfying.🎮 Next-Gen Performance on PS5: Load times are lightning fast, visuals are crisp, and everything runs buttery smooth at 60fps. The DualSense feedback adds a new layer of immersion too.🎵 Epic Soundtrack: Emotional piano pieces blend with high-energy boss battle themes, making the audio experience a standout.🌌 Surprisingly Deep Story: There’s a more serious tone in this game, touching on loneliness, AI, and freedom — but still family-friendly.Minor Downsides:While not perfect — some animations and textures don’t quite match the PS5’s potential, and there are a few pacing hiccups — the overall experience is a huge step forward for Sonic as a franchise.Final Verdict:Sonic Frontiers is the fresh take fans have been waiting for. It respects Sonic’s roots while pushing the series in an exciting new direction. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to the franchise, this is a thrilling ride worth taking.

One of the best 3D Sonic games in decades
This is probably my favorite Sonic game since the Adventure Era. A lot younger fans grew up after the dark era and are used to the more goofy meme side of the series. But Frontiers is the first game in a long time to have a more serious story tone like in the adventure series. The music is great and boss themes are all amazing. While not all stage music is just the best it is up there s one of the better soundtrack. 06 is still probably my favorite. In terms of how the open world is handled for a first attempt it is nice. It gives them something to build off of in the future. A lot of areas fill empty but it is still fun to blast across the map at full speed. Hopefully in future games more hidden areas can be uncovered. I recently bought this for my little sister and she is loving the game and its story. Also Sage is a great new addition to the ever expanding cast as well as the easter eggs of IDW character name drops to show that the comics are now canon to the game.

Overall good game
Sonic Frontiers takes you to a new open world concept which is a pretty interesting take given what the previous sonic games have been like. It does have very good graphics in my opinion and a pretty decent storyline to it. It took somewhere around 20-26 hours to complete the game so not terrible. I did enjoy some of the move set that they incorporated into Sonics features.

Wow…
I am an old guy who was in college when Sonic first appeared in our world. So I’ve played a lot of video games and tons of Sonic versionsThis game is just a blast to play. The 3-D open world nature of the game is beautiful and executed really well… my complaints have all just been me overthinking the controls or getting ahead of myself in the story.Well paced and a lot of fun!

A fun game with an amazing soundtrack
Just platniumed this game last week and what a fun time I had with it 😎👌 took me about 30hrs to do everything, I am so glad they went open world with the game while at the same time still having the old school 2d/3d stages in the game as well. The soundtrack is amazing and the art style cool(I recommend the ps5 copy as you can play at 60fps and that is the only way to play this)the game is not perfect and has some pop in even right in front of an object at times but you get used to it and it really doesn't detract from the game. It also has a bunch of free dlc coming in 2023. Such a good time, especially for a sonic fan, this is the game you were waiting for.
