Way cool
I got it yesterday. Spent six hours with it. The game is much more realistic now than ever, particularly from the defensive side of things. You can actually produce clean sheets consistently with this, unlike FIFA 2003. Many of the features like the end-to-end camera with zoom and height controls have returned from FIFA 2002 which were missing in FIFA 2003. The play is realistic. The UI still stinks (hence the missing star.) It is confusing sometimes. "Waiting for Away Team." Still have not figured out how to get the away team to show up! But the career feature is great! You actually get to earn money, and prestige (not sure what that means yet, but sounds interesting.) By earning money for your budget means you can improve your club over the long haul. In FIFA 2003, you were give X amount of dollars, and that was it. This makes it more interesting. Hopefully Hull City will extend my contract next season after I get them out of the third division.

Scam.
The box the game came in was another language and same with the disc. My PlayStation would not play it as it said it was not an original PlayStation disc.

Only good for playing with a friend.
I must say, FIFA 2004 is THE most disappointing game of the FIFA series I've played thus far. Granted, the graphics and gameplay have seen great improvement, but what I cannot comprehend is why FIFA 2004 appears to be going back in time. I mean, FIFA 2003 had a "create a team" option which is ominously missing in this "new and improved" game. Further, THERE ARE NO INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION. For Pete's sake, Super Nintendo's FIFA '98 even had the CONCACAF World Cup Qualification 'tournaments'. FIFA 2004 has none; not even a World Cup. Also, the developers were absolutely obsessed with club teams; they added dozens of teams from Austria and Korea yet they only put in less than 20 international teams. To make things worse, they managed to leave out international teams like Japan, Holland, Colombia, Romania, Ireland, Thailand, Iran, and Bulgaria. At this rate, they'll probably forget to add Uruguay and Belgium for FIFA 2005. Also, the refereeing is highly unpredictable. In FIFA 2002, you could actually choose the referee's strictness. The game could also use more stats and game options. Whats odd is that previous versions of FIFA have actually had more options to tweek with. FIFA 2004 is pretty dry. In short, buy this game only if you want a graphics update and don't mind not being able to play international tournaments.

More of a lateral move than an improvement
I received this game as a gift, so I cannot comment on the price value. However, I can give my opinion on some of the aspects of this game. First I went to select my favorite team in the world. Yet they were not there. They left out HOLLAND. How is that possible? When I played FIFA 2002 on my PC, at least they had Holland as a team if not having any of the actual players. It's ludicrous that they would leave one of the most fascinating teams in the world out. Though I have tried to play with the tool, the off-the-ball runs feature rarely works well. Maybe I am not playing with the right strategy, but I almost never see a wing player making a run. Most of the time it's the backpedaling forward who is making the run. And never into open space. I much rather prefer the old style of passing which was left out. Why can't I curve the ball anymore? It is much easier to dissect a defense if you could curl the ball into the path of a player making a run. Often the straight line passes are picked off. By the time you do manage to get in a position to pass straight to a teammate, your player is robbed of the ball. I would love to have the option to switch controls to an older model where the trigger buttons can be used to curl left and right. This game is best played with someone else. With the detriments it has, it can be very frustrating. The gameplay has suffered and the game freezes quite often. I am less interested in stunning graphics (they are quite nice) and more interested in quality gameplay. EA has made a couple steps back with the off the ball runs and the lack of passing control. Also, I have yet to start a season as manager so I can't comment. No wait, I have started, but it froze up before I could save. It looked like a nifty addition, but it seems that the other playability problems should be fixed before EA tackles something in the managerial realm. All in all a mediocre effort. Luckily, I didn't buy it.

It Works despite the game release in 2003
The game works, no scratches it. It says was new, but I doubt it since it is missing the catalog. However, it is totally playable and brings back nostalgic memories of Ronaldinho, David Beckham

Son loves the game
I buy these for my son, who loves to play the old games. He plays this for hours.

the latest in an amazing series
EA promised that while FIFA 2004 would be easier to pick up and play than ever before, the game would also offer extra depth for players looking for a lasting challenge. With the game's new career mode going a long way to achieving this. Everything EA has promised has arrived with even more! The graphics have been improved considerably from Fifa 2003. With more players that look more realistic and with added stadiums the graphics really is a great bonus in this game. Built in to the crowd are co-ordinating team and country flags that add to the realism. With all of the club teams, accurate uniforms are imperative. There are championship stars, current sponsors, patches and captain's armbands all added to the players shirts and are easy to spot, you really feel like you are watching the game at the weekend! The soundtrack for the game has been re-vamped with lots of hits from around the world. The UK hits are easily recognizable. Again the commentary during the matches is done by Ally McCoist and John Motson. I've only had the game for a week or so and already their comments are getting boring. Their reactions to some movements on the pitch is sluggish. Other times their phrases are just out of context. These niggingly little things spoil the play after a while and you find yourself during down the volume. The major addition to the 'FIFA' series this year is the inclusion of the 'Off-the-Ball' system. Designed to give player's greater freedom for player runs into space, the system works by holding onto the Left shoulder button and switching between three different players. By using the right analogue stick, players can then make this player run into space and slot a pass through to him - well in theory. You see as with many of the new techniques introduced over the years in the 'FIFA' franchise, the 'Off the Ball' system merely confuses matters as it's too hard to keep a check of your player on the ball and the one off it at the same time; however with practice I have started to use the move to my advantage. It's another nice challenge that is built into the game to improve the enjoyment of the overall game. In terms of an actual game there's a hell of a lot on offer. The game offers an extensive Career Mode for single players, which sees you taking on virtually any club in the world and becoming their Player Manager. In this role you must select the correct training to undertake each week, secure new signings and sell off players whilst also playing the game at the end of every week. It's an excellent feature that provides more then enough challenge to `Pro Evos' Master League mode, and will certainly keep players entertained for months to come. Away from this mode are the standard features that let you compete in various competitions, whilst it's also possible to take the game online and play against others or import your team from EA's `Total Club Manager' titles. There is also that added Practice mode that allows you to perfect your set pieces, your corners or just practice using the new controls that Fifa 2004 offers. Overall I am very impressed with the game. I found it extremely hard to work with the new controls and different movements, graphics of the game as I was used to the Fifa 2003 game. I really like the added game modes, the added players, the new stadiums and the new soundtrack. At the moment I am currently the manager of Glasgow Rangers in the Career mode, I am trying to make them the best team available, it's a hard task trying to manage the players, the training and then actually playing the game at the end of the week. I think this new feature of the game will give me and countless others hours of fun for the coming months.
