I used the copper II sulfate pentahydrate complex but you can also use iron ferricyanide. The key is to use something that will decompose hydrogen peroxide because that decomposition reaction is necessary for luminescence to occur. In addition, the luminol must be in a basic solution, or the reaction will not work.
