Fairly durable, but not adamantium. They could break if you were too rough with them.

Yes, you have to make a fist the whole time. To do anything with your hands you have to take it off and hold it with the other hand. Not a big deal. I used mine at comic cons with no problem.

Q: Is this fit a 8 years old?

Probably, It's scaled for an adult but anyone can hold it by the foam handles. It would be a little long for accurate scale for an eight year old. That depends on how perfectly you want the costume to look.
