Worthwhile
55 American women from all walks of life share their WW II homefront stories. I enjoyed reading their first person accounts. This is going on the shelves in my classroom!

Interesting stories in this book and how life wasn't easy at times during WWII
I am a man and I found the stories by these woman interesting. Down to earth stories. The story's range from 3 pages long to 5 pages. So I can read a story or 2 before I shut of the lights at bedtime.

What a great bunch of stories!
This collection of real histories covers a wide range of American women, writing of their WWII years, some quietly, some more out-spoken - as, a Japanese-American woman herded off to live in the eastern Oregon desert - and on the other hand, the woman who wrote of never again being able to look at Japanese-Americans with the same kindness as before Pearl Harbor - and the wide range gives the book its wonderful sense of reality. Some just talk about their lives, some tell about their adventures, and that's the way people really are. As a 45 year old, I have only known about The War from the recollections of others, and I particularly love hearing about it in real people's voices - bravo!

Eye-opening and moving
A great collection of "ordinary" voices from extraordinary times. This book gave me a new appreciation of the hardships, challenges, and even joys shared by those who stayed behind in the Second World War. Reading of the details of daily life in wartime America makes my own parents' experiences clearer to me. I'm left with a great admiration for the quiet strength of these women. Thank goodness, the women are modest, and the editor pulls no "greatest generation" claptrap. The power of these memoirs is only greater for that reticence.
